Are there any schools (or other institutions) that overtly discriminate on race or ethnicity?

Let me ask - Are there any schools (or, alternately, other types of institutions other than terrorist groups such as the KKK or similar racist activist organizations), where being White (or being a subset of White, such as being of German or Italian ancestry), counts for something, especially in the US?

Scholarship programs, and possibly mainstream employment can also fall under the scope of this question.

The following don’t really count:

  1. Terrorist or racial activist fraternities such as the KKK, Neo Nazis, and their ilk.
  2. Programs where the “ethnic” criteria is citizenship in a majority-white country (e.g. “$2000 scholarship for enrolling in this school if you have a Swedish or Norwegian Passport”), even if it would tend to favor whites in practice.

E.g.:

“New music conservatory in Richmond! Preference given to Irish and Scots (must be White with a minimum of 1/16 ancestry from Scotland and Ireland). We can get away with it because we don’t accept Federal student aid money.”

There are plenty immigrant fraternity groups that offer scholarships only to their particular ethnicity. Two seconds of googling found this one. I suspect if you google x-American where x is any ethnicity that had a large migration to the US after 1900, you’ll find plenty of other examples.

Are there still WASPs only country clubs? I know there were still a few in the 90’s, and a few GOP members got in trouble for having memberships, but I don’t know if they’ve finally died out or not.

Outside of political parties, a number of gated communities and several college fraternities, mostly religious orientated groups.

Lots of the Christian Religious Right that identify themselves as Pentecostal, Quiverfull, Fundamentalist and so on will not accept non-whites. These people variously believe that excessive melanin is either the Mark of Cain or the effects of Canaan’s Curse. The "God Hates Fags’ Westboro Baptist Church is one of them.

Neither will Scientology - Hubbard was an infamous racist, and while they aggressively market Dianetics to all masses, non-whites cannot officially make it past “Clear” (which is coincidentally the limit of Dianetics in the Scientology money-scamming machine). Likewise, non-white celebrities are not scouted by Scientologists.

Note how Will Smith pours so much into Scientology including establishing a Scientologist school (that’s not really allowed to be called a Scientologist school), but is not recognised as a Scientologist amongst its rank and file. Connor Cruise, the adopted son between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, is practically raised in Scientology but he has not even been acknowledged as a Clear.

Um, what about Isaac Hayes? He was a black Scientologist who had a famous falling-out with Parker and Stone over an episode of South Park that referenced Scientology. I’ve looked at some Scientology publications and I wouldn’t characterize it as a racist organization or religion - quite the opposite, in fact, though I do recognize that I’ve only looked at like 1% of what is available.

Caveat: I’m not a Scientologist.

Is Scientology anti-adoption or is Connor Cruise an ethnic minority that the Scientologists look down upon?

Being white counts for something at nearly every university and government employer and at many of the larger private sector businesses in the US, but never is the effect in the whites’ favor. Affirmative Action discriminates against whites in favor of historically disadvantaged groups and does so in a completely transparent manner.

I knew that, but, based on my example, I was implying about situations where whites (or some subsets of whites) are given an advantage.

Besides the fringe groups mentioned above, I cannot think of any meaningful group with an explicitly pro-white policy anywhere in the US. In today’s society, its more acceptable to favor some flavor of European white (e.g., Italian-Americans, Greek-Americans, etc.), but taboo to specify general whiteness.

To give an idea about the hesitation top colleges have with even giving a small sniff of “racism”, I’ll share a personal story. I gave a large gift to my undergraduate college 10 years ago, and after thumbing through the existing list of scholarships, which included ones tied to every conceivable non-white demographic (e.g., Mandarin Chinese men who live in northern california, Samoans who play woodwind instruments, etc.), including ones for minorities like Japanese and Indians and not just "historically disadvantaged minorities, I tried to have my gift tied to an annual scholarship for “a female Caucasian undergraduate”, and it was flat out rejected.

At the large, very liberal state university that I attended 20 years ago, there was a scholarship program for those of Swedish descent. (A friend who was a recipient stuck out like a sore thumb amongst their honorees because she was half-Swedish, half-Chinese.)
