Are there any Sith left after Return of the Jedi?

Well, no, not seriously. I just took the quote “A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away” and extrapolated as to why we don’t have all that cool stuff now.

But seriously? No freakin’ way.

Nobody answered my question, though. How did Luke become such a good Jedi? Or does he only know the lightsaber side of the force? He rarely uses force powers, only to grab his lightsaber, etc. If he only knows the lightsaber side how does this make him different from General grievous?

An ultrahigh midichlorian count.

Ow ow! Quit hitting me!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

It just occurred to me, and this goes to whether Luke would become the next Sith Lord, that if Anakin was considered too old to start training as a Jedi then Luke was right off the map! I mean, Anakin was what…10 or so when they found him and started training? Luke was already something like 18 or something before he did anything remotely Jedi like. Further, Anakin got a good 5+ years of training out of Obi Wan. Luke got what…a week total (a few hours with Obi Wan and a bit of time with Yoda before he ran away)?

You ask me Luke is totally setup for going to the Dark Side based on the above. What about Leia? She received no training at all but the force is supposedly just as strong in her as it is in Luke (twins and all…they split the midichlorians from dad right down the middle between them…see below).

FYI: Luke was indeed powerful (right near the top) with the force but not the most powerful one. Not sure how trustworthy the source is below (all fiction afterall so fanboy who scoured every source of info or fanboy who likes to make stuff up…you decide). The most powerful Jedi ever was Anakin/Vader…by a long shot. Luke had roughly half of what dad did (Leia got the other half it seems).

I have no idea if this is correct, but I always assumed that there’s an unspecified time gap between ESB and ROTJ, during which Luke returns to Dagobah and gets more training. I don’t think it’s ever stated, but how else to explain the fact that he’s still Semi-Whiny, Unsure-of-Himself Luke at the end of ESB and then suddenly Calm, Cool, Black-Clad Kicking Ass Jedi Luke at the beginning of ROTJ?

(And yes, those are actual action figure names. Or at least they shoulda been.)

It couldn’t have been too powerful, as later on he was able to capture and contain Palpatine’s lightning just fine… until the ever-growing ball of lightning energy blew both him and Palpy off the senate pod they were standing on.

There are all sorts of niggling questions about that, of course… how did Yoda learn to do that? Did the Jedi have a Defense Against the Dark Arts class?

Yoda was just a cool little green dude. When he meets Dooku in EpII Dooku tells Yoda that he has surpassed even Yoda in power and proceeds to zap Yoda with lightning. Yoda sucks it all up and tells Dooku he still has much to learn.

From this I surmise that even if Dooku was more powerful (which according to my link just above seems to be a lie) Yoda still has the benefit of 800+ years of experience and knows a few tricks. Kinda like a teenager who thinks at some point he can kick his old-man’s ass but dad, being more experienced if less overtly powerful, shows sonny boy the error of his ways (as an example).

Seemed to me like Obi was the biggest badass in the galaxy.

The main difference is that Luke didn’t have the inital conditions that Anakin had. He wasn’t a slave and he didn’t avenge his mothers death (at least not that he knew). There are similarities to be sure, but the path that Luke travels is not identical to the path his father took.

Of course, a great deal of this rests on who you think was the actual ‘Chosen One’, Anakin or Luke.

The biggest clue was Yoda saying " A prophecy misread, may be." The prophecy said, “bring balance to the Force.” Well, if you look it at it literally, Anakin did bring balance to the Force, by reducing it to two on each side:

Anakin & Palpatine
Obi-Wan & Yoda

So we all thought it was a “good” prophecy, but really it wasn’t.

Luke then proceeds to finish it, at the end remaining as the only Jedi. But if he falls to the Dark Side, and Leia fights him, once again there is balance. Then when these two die: No More Force.

I’m debating little itty bitty things in Star Wars. Have I become gasp a fangirl? Is there such a thing?

Nope…he was up there but not the biggest badass in the Galaxy. I would have said that title definitely would have to go to Vader and/or Yoda.

I linked to the mitichlorian list a few posts back but that does not indicate actual power…just potential I think (and maybe Anakin/Vader was taken down a few notches after his accident so he never really got to his full potential…just speculating). Also at Supershadow they have a “Most Powerful” ranking. Again I do not know how they compiled it but for completeness here it is (Luke is at the top and Vader is only #9???):

Welcome to the Dark Side.

Dammit

I meant, This is CNN.

I also look at the fact that in two of the prequels, AotC and RotS, Palpatine (while still Chancellor) expresses concern for the safety and well being of Padme. He may have done the same in TPM, but I really don’t remember. I take it to mean that Palpatine knew she was going to play an important part even after the fact. Also, it was Palpatine who suggested that Anakin watch over Padme in AotC…

Re: Luke and the dark side:

Lukr does eventually fall to the dark side. In the EU (expanded universe, books and comics) it is shown that Palpatine has several cloned bodies of himself, and has mastered the art of living in spirit form (akin to Obi Wan and Yoda), but also mastered transfering the spirit back into a new body. So at some point after ROTJ, Luke decides the best way to bring the Emperor down is fom the inside, and joins him as his apprentice. He tries his best not to be seduced by the dark side, but does eventually fall, and Leia is the one who brings him back. I’m not sure if he was ever offically a “Sith Lord”, but he was a Dark Jedi and apprentice to Palpatine.

I’ve never actually read this for myself, but I have read some synopsis.

Well, I was going to say, “Dude, you forgot the evil Bwa-ha-ha laugh!” But then you followed up with …

Which is even better.

Also it was Palpatine (as Sidious) who ordered the Trade federation to execute her in TPM. Also, I’m sure it was Dooku (who wouldn’t have done so without Sidious’ approval, I’m sure) who ordered Jango Fett to assassinate her. Twice. And Dooku (again, I’m sure, with Sidious’ approval) who ordered her to be executed on Geonosis.

So Palpatine seems to be publically concerned for her safety, all the while, pulling the strings behind the scenes, repeatedly trying to kill her.

As far as Obi-Wan being the greatest Jedi, if you go strictly by what we are shown in the movies, he survives more dangerous situations than any other character, but almost never without some help - from Yoda, Anakin, the clone army, Qui-Gon, R2D2, etc. etc.

So he could, like, smoke cigarettes.
Cool.

Because they left all the cool stuff behind when they were fleeing from the cylons…something like that.

I should think it obvious that Leia will turn to the dark side.

She’s the sith-ter, after all.
