Are there other Dopers who would rather deal with occasional downtime...

I don’t understand why we can’t switch to a new platform that actually works. This is 2008… there are so many options available to us, and WE ARE PAYING FOR THIS NOW!!!

Good news: Search is back.

Bad news: You must wait 5 minutes (300 seconds) between searches.

We didn’t have these problems under the Tsar.

  1. Because you aren’t paying enough for it (that’s why it’s still a shoestring operation), and

  2. Because the new owners aren’t sinking money into the situation without having some reason to believe it will produce revenue (a not surprising position by a for-profit company).

I’m not sure it’s even a realistic choice - since ‘downtime’ might actually represent damage to the database - that needs to be repaired - it isn’t a simple case of us just deciding which kind of inconvenience we would prefer to endure - one of the choices infers more broad consequences than the other.

For a for profit company they are surprisingly in the dark about how to turn a profit off of a popular message board and then use a portion of those profits to ensure the board runs smoothly.
