Are these comics funny?

So, these two sets of comics have both made the tippy top front page of reddit recently. Showed them to a friend, and she and I are divided - one of us thinks they’re cute and funny, one of us thinks they’re too cutesy and not-funny. (For purposes of experimental validity, I won’t say who thinks what. I know, I know, you’re all crushed).

Reddit is similarly split. Of course, it all comes down to a matter of taste, but I’m still curious. Yay or nay?

Meh.

No. Not at all. In fact they’re terrible and a waste of time reading.

They suck.

Not doing it for me.

They’re witty. Funnier than Cathy, but that isn’t saying much.

Just as with Dilbert and XKCD, I detest the art. Any comic where I could draw better than the “artist” draws is no damn good.

these are funny how?
they have the same warmth, humor and impact as a motivational poster, ie none.

Some of them are almost mildly amusing.

Made me sort of smile-ish. Almost. With that drawing style I wanted to see them get naked. She’s pathologically in love with Beardface, so she would probably do anything he asked.

Phew, glad to see I’m not from another planet. Reddit tends to be almost as cynical as this place, though, so the warm reception surprised me.

WAG: Female readers are going to respond a lot more positively to these, on the average, than male readers.

At least, I can imagine them appealing to a certain type of person. I am not of that type.

Not funny at best. Creepy as hell in both art (especially the weird eyeorbs) and the tweenlike relationship material.

I don’t mind the drawing.

But the words, the subject, the whole thing, is just repulsively, sickeningly cutesy.

I wanted to like them but failed.

Not cute, not funny. A bit embarrassing even.

I found them funny. Not rip-roaring hilarious but funny.

Not funny. I think they were going for “whimsical.” I hate whimsical.

One of you is right.

The one where they came just to see the dog was OK. The other ones blow. They kind of remind me of that stupid Love Is comic strip about the naked 8-year-olds in love.

A hundred newspaper comic strips 365 times a year for which people have been making a living in syndication for a century adds up to 3,650,000 comic strips. . Just how much real humor is there in the world to keep up with the demand. How much funnier was Chic Young’s Blondie? These are at least average among them.

I thought they were okay; I did like the art style.

None made me Let’s go to the quarry and throw stuff down there but a couple were good takes on relationship-type comedy (the nightmare one and the “girlfriend wants attention” one, in particular).
