Are we not allowed to use different fonts anymore?

Ah yes, the SDMB. Where we welcome diversity and celebrate tolerance.

“We” didn’t close them? “We” want newbies…?

When did you become a mod? Did someone forget to change your title?

Again with the “we, we, we”.

Do you also highly recommend strictly black for long time posters like stoid as well or just for newbies?

All the way home.
Wheeeeeeee!

jsgoddess might be a little more partial to “strictly black” than most posters.

Wouldn’t this be considered an example of junior modding? I can see a request such as “I have difficulty seeing certain colors because they don’t contrast very well, so I’d appreciate if you would stick to posting in black so I can read your posts better” as being a legitimate request, but I thought a comment by a non-moderator saying “Please stop doing that because it’s against board culture and we don’t do that here” was against the rules. I think that the second type of request ought to come from a moderator and that sending in a report would be the better way to go.

Pretty much. Nobody wants to go blue. Smurf outta luck.

Huh.

I’ve actually been posting in 95% black for years now. No one’s said a thing.

You’re just jealous because you’re stuck in that unsexy non-blue skin.

Huh?

Using Photoshop’s Protanopia colorblindness preview, there’s no change in contrast against the white background of the board. Only a muddier change in hue.

This is the what simulated difference is in coloration:

From this:
Your green font results in a low-contrast situation for me which is very difficult to read. This should give you some idea of the problem.

…I think this is a terrible suggestion. I find having posters hijack a thread to lecture others on “board culture” to be much more annoying than different coloured posts, and I don’t think that any of use would agree as to exactly what board culture is.

Sure, colors and funky fonts can be annoying, but is worth legislating? Meh, not so sure.

You would have to ask Asimovian.

I laughed.

This post has been defonted by the defontist.

This is probably pedantic of me, but is what you’re talking about colorblindness? Red-green colorblindness - which is what the vast majority of colorblind people are - would just make the green text a more murky shade of green. Even the weird, rare colorblind subtypes, like tritanopia or achromatopsia, wouldn’t actually reduce the contrast of fairly dark text against a light background.

I’m not saying you don’t have some other type of colorblindness, of course, but I don’t think red-green people (which is where most of the 10% figure comes from) would have trouble with green on white. Green on red would be hard, but not white. (Colorblind or not, though, the green’s annoying).
