I have a pair of jeans that remind me too much of women’s jeans. They’re dark blue Express “Fit 76” jeans. Google tells me that they’re men’s, and the button is on the right side, but they look… womanly. They do make it look like I have an ass, which is good, but they make my thighs look fat, which I don’t.
Anyway, confirm for me that these are indeed men’s jeans?
As far as I know, no. Inseam measurements are usually expressed as petite, regular/average, or tall (though some companies, like Land’s End or LL Bean, will do custom hemming, for which you do need to know the inseam measurement). I wouldn’t even know what size to get if I saw jeans sold by waist measurement, unless there was a table converting standard sizes to waist measurements.
I believe Levi used to sell their jeans for a while with actual inseam measurements. That was nice. Last time I went to the Gap, though – didn’t like the cut of the latest tweaks to the Levis.
A recent Ebay sale designated them as men’s jeans, if that’s any use to you. From the picture they look like men’s jeans to me, though that can be hard to tell.
Seven, Mavi, Parasuco, JCrew, Anthropologie, Silver, Buffalo, Sandwich, Jackpot, Levi’s and Miss Sixty are all sold by waist size/inseam size (eg 29/32).
The only women’s jeans that I know of that aren’t sold this way are the more “mom” styles (no offense to anyone who wears this style of jean).
My women’s Levis 501’s are sold waist/inseam. In Levis, you can tell the difference definatively by whether the size is printed on the external leather tag. Size visable for all…mens, invisable size…womens. Both button the same direction.
I’ve never seen any jeans in the “juniors” department sized this way, nor any of the off-brand (e.g., the ones for those of us who can’t afford ninety-dollar jeans) ones.
Most of the ultra-expensive brands are done this way.
I know this because my gf is dying for a pair of lace/denim ABS jeans this Christmas, and I actually had to tell her to go try them on before I bought them because they are sized by waist instead of normal, and doing a return after Christmas isn’t feasible (they will all be gone)
I take a US ize 0 regular length in Gap, a UK size 6 petite length in Topshop’s, and measure as a 25’’ waist 31’’ inside leg…which nobody manufactures!
Depending on the cut of the jeans (tight to the thigh, bootcut, lowrise, skinny fit, stretch denim, drainpipe orwhatever) I might take 2 sizes in different styles from the same brand.
All brands have their own cuts, fits and sizing guides, so unlike men’s jeans women have to try on an approximate size, and then go up or down depending on how it sits.
Women have hips, so someone with a 24’’ waist could have 30’’ hips or 36’’ hips and that will obviously affect their choice of style and size of jeans. A simple waist/length doesn’t cover all the variables.
FWIW, I’ve got a pair of 501s that have the size printed on back, for all to see, so that should mean they’re men’s, but the fit is … odd … and the boys aren’t as comfy in them as in my other pants. Must have just been a cutting accident - most jeans are mass-cut in stacks of fabric almost a foot thick, and it’s not unheard of fr things to slip a bit.
irishgirl , how true!!! women’s clothing is so hard to fit, especially jeans. I too take a 31" inseam but wear about 27, and they are hard to find, most companies only make 32 or 30 (more rarely) inseams. grrrrr!!!
With regard to the OP, don’t know whether they are women’s or men’s, but hey - what does it matter, if you like how you look in them?
All my 501’s fit a bit different, but I always get them from the outlet and assumed that if you paid full price you got the exact fit. Also, Levi’s has made the 501’s “roomier” in the past year or so.
You can’t really tell by if there’s an inseam measurement or not, as others have pointed out. I noticed that some Guess men’s jeans don’t have an inseam. I don’t think any Lucky brand men’s jeans do either. It’s kind of annoying. Who wants to be told that their legs are “short?” Waist and inseam is a much better way to go.
