I’m Canadian, and I have an account at an American RWNJ message board. Mostly, I just read. But sometimes, I have to post, especially when it comes to Canadian politics. It’s often to set the record straight.
According to such stalwart journals (ha!) as the Washington Times, OANN, Newsmax, and Fox (but no Canadian sources, unsurprisingly); Justin Trudeau froze every Canadian’s bank account during the Ottawa truckers’ protest, and acted dictatorial in imposing the Emergencies Act, suspending our Charter, and declaring himself as dictator (yes, really!). I waded in there with facts: my bank account was never frozen; Parliament had to debate and vote on the Emergencies Act after its imposition, and Trudeau was no dictator who could suspend our Constitution. Neither could the Queen, and nor could she call out the Army on her own initiative, which a lot of these RWNJs thought she could do, Canada being British (bullshit!) and all.
Of course, most refused to believe me, because I’m apparently a British subject (like hell I am), and am only parroting the British line (bullshit!). But I made my points, and received a number of PMs, mostly saying, “I did not know that. Thanks for the info.” So I guess I did some good.
