I am downplaying this study because only an idiot would think it has merit in the debate over the black-white score gap, and because actual followup was done to the tune of 75Million in New York proving it has no merit.
It’s particularly insulting to blacks to pretend that it has merit for blacks in improving their scores.
You’ve stated that the study says low motivation can be solved with M&Ms. The study doesn’t say this – it says that, in a particular test, the gap between low scorers and high scorers was nearly eliminated by providing extra motivation. This provides very good evidence that suggests that a big part of the test-score gap is due to motivation.
Which shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Really – are you surprised by the conclusion that those who score lower have less motivation?
That you think that those who score low and those who score high have the exact same level of motivation is comical. Apparently, in CP world, motivation is irrelevant to how one scores on a test.

I’m pretty immune to insults, but do yourself a favor and try not to kill off race-based preferences for AA. When they win the argument that it’s all a problem of opportunity, at every opportunity tier a black candidate who could otherwise participate in society will lose to a white or asian, just as they have with Google, Facebook, Apple, and thousands of other companies too careless in hiring to pay attention to what happens when they don’t effect race-alone preferences at the front end.

As I asked in a thread in GD: here’s what I’m wondering of those who argue that some races are genetically smarter or less violent than others: what exactly do you want to DO with that information? In an ideal world, where your conception of race is fully accepted, what do you envision happening with government and society and such?
CP seems to believe that this “revelation” would somehow help black people (because, I guess he thinks, race-based preferences would be justifiable forever). It boggles the mind, because of course in history, whenever America mostly believed that black people were less intelligent, black people suffered greatly.
I offered my suggestion in a previous thread where we “discussed” the idea that black people have genes that make them criminals.
I pointed out that the proponents of this theory were saying that black people were genetically inclined to commit violent street crimes. I also noted that most corporate crimes are committed by white people so presumably we have the genes for those crimes.
The solution is to swap environments. Black people should take over the business world because they lack the genes for corporate crimes. Meanwhile white people should be moved into the inner cities because we lack the genes for street crimes. The result would be a drop in crime in both the boardrooms and the inner cities. So it’s a win/win.
