Are you a shipper? Stop ruining everything! (Harry Potter)

Remember how those Mulder-and-Scully relationshippers ruined the X-Files for everybody?

They’re at it again. Now they’re trying to force Harry Potter and his gawky female sidekick Hermione Granger into each other’s arms. They’re even writing fanfiction with —
yes----
S E X S C E N E S ! ! !

(see how fast people clicked on that one – heh heh  .)

Keep in mind Harry and his friends are only 14 at the present moment.

So what’s next, 'shippers? Going to start fantasizing about Malcolm in the Middle and that loopy Krav Maga chick?

How about it? Are you a dirty lousy SHIPPER? How many other cultural artifacts can you cheapen today? Is this wildly hilarious, pathetic, sick or mostly harmless?

Harry Potter FREAKIN’ RULES MAN!!!

I’m serious, I’m 16 years old and I couldn’t put these books down. How messed up is that?

Um…shippers don’t ruin anything. You don’t like it, don’t read it. Yeesh.

And it’s not like it’s authorized by JK Rowling. It would be worse if those were real scenes in her books. Those are just fan fiction—hence the word “fan”. I have some weird thing with fan fiction. I don’t hate it and sometimes I’ll glance at it, but unless it’s authorized or the real thing, I don’t pay much attention to it.

sheesh I read the first part of title as ‘Are you a stripper’ Now I have been tricked into opening a Harry Potter thread.

What’s a ‘shipper’?

Anyway, we all know it’ll be Ron who ends up with Hermione. That’s the worst part, they aren’t even reading the books right. Harry’s either gonna end up with Cho Chang, or that Veela girl’s sister from Beauxbatons. Or maybe Ginny Weasley, but I am unsure where that’s headed.

My money’s on Ginny Weasley, myself. Cho is too old for Harry. Sure, his rivals if off stage for good now but I still don’t see it happening. And that little French chickadee is gone for good I’d bet.

So the smart money is on a Weasley becoming a Potter.

'Shipper is short for relationshipper – somebody who is excessively preoccupied with getting their two two favorite fictional characters together romantically. The term was invented in the X-Files fan community.

Someone who wants, more than anything, a Mulder-Scully romance, rather than secrets being revealed or Mulder getting his sister back, is a 'shipper.

Someone who wants, more than anything, for Harry Potter to fall in love and get married rather than becoming the greatest wizard of all time, is a 'shipper.

Someone who wants, more than anything, for Jim and Huck to express their hidden homoerotic feelings for one another, is a DAMNED 'shipper. Same with Frodo and Sam, Batman and Robin, Skipper and Gilligan.

Actually, what ruined X-Files was the Conspiracy. Making the Mulder/Scully sexual relationship canon (Note the difference between canon and fanfic - you can ignore fanfic if it’s not to your taste.) didn’t help, but X-Files main plot had ceased to be of any real quality long before that.

The Conspiracy took the focus off the two really interesting points of the series - the X-Files (While the Files are connected to The Conspiracy, the best weren’t), and the evolving relationship between Mulder and Scully. (They shouldn’t have ended up in a Relationship-relationship, IMO, but the way they interacted was the most interesting thing about the series.)

BTW, the fic tclouie linked to is awful - not because it posits a relationship between Harry and Hermione (Despite the fact that they’re both obviously going to end up with other people - Cho and Ron, respectively.), but because it’s horribly, HORRIFICALLY written.

Ugh! That’s actually too bad to MiST!

I’m actually hoping this is a 14-year-old girl writing that. I’d hate to think a putative adult would be that bad.

What’s MiST?

MiST = MST = heckle, a la Mystery Science Theater 3K. MiST is just the more phonetic spelling. MSTed fanfics can be awesome, though I’ve read some pretty bad MSTings too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, I have to admit that not all the fanfiction at wolfgirl91.tripod.com is horrifically awful.

Sometimes it’s kinda funny. For instance, try this bit of speculative satire. Not bad, in my opinion.

I think jayjay is right, the “Expultion” story was probably written by a kid, due to the misspellings and the trite writing style.

I guess 'shipper fanfiction is OK if it’s clearly satire.

Bite your tongue! The best MSTs tend to revolve around fics too awful to read. I had some of my best luck with a Digimon shipper where a 12-year-old couple did it in a cave. I wouldn’t wish the original on my worst enemies.

She starts the story with Hermione and Draco as a couple. That is wrong beyond belief. This was almost as funny as the bad X-files fanfic stuff (the stuff that tried to be bad).

I gotta say, it is addictive…

Here I am a sophmore in college,
Twenty years old,
Working a full time job for Sprint,

and I LOVE Harry Potter Books

It’s just some of the best fiction I have ever read, and I’ve read just about everything you could name(in the classics).
BTW - Harry is gonna end up with Ginny - put money on it.

In the second book, every time Harry, Ron and Hermione snuck off to work on the Polyjuice potion, I couldn’t help snickering at the thought of two pubescent boys and a girl alone together in an empty restroom at school.

No, THOSE are slashers. And I’ll thank you to kindly shut up. You may not like it, but so what. Plenty of people do.
