Are you buying XMas gifts for your pets?

On the radio this morning I heard not one, not two, but three different DJs on three different stations talk about going out to get their pets a gift (or gifts) for Christmas.

I wondered how many pet owners did this. Do you?

Yes, and gifts for my relatives’ and friends’ pets.

I do. They usually get one ‘big gift’ (like a scratcher or new bowls or something - this year, it was a refillable cardboard scratcher), and get their stockings filled with toys.

E.

No, that would be silly. On the other hand, there are a couple of things that I’ve wanted to get for the cats, and I’ll be at the store anyway…

What I really really really want is one of those cat doors that you can set up in a window frame. That may sound like a cat gift, but it’s actually for me, so I don’t have to get up all the time to let them onto the porch. Or back in the house. Or onto the porch. Or back in the house. Et cetera.

Also, I do buy gifts for the pets of the lady who sits next to me at work. She gets upset when I buy things for her, but she dotes on her little dogs.

Of course! Their stockings hang next to Hubby’s and mine on the mantle. My mother also buys gifts for the “granddogs”.

They get a stuffed toy to rip up (which is usually gone within an hour) and chew-bones, as well as treats.

Keeps 'em busy while we’re unwrapping our gifts,

Always. Everyone always buys presents for my cat. Even my Mother and my Grandmother (who both HATE cats). Well, they always bought presents for my dearly departed. This is Sammi’s first Christmas with me, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t for her.

And I always get presents for my Parent’s dog.

I no longer own any pets, but I never bought them nor any friends’ pets Xmas presents.

The cats have their own stockings, and Santa fills them with presents every Christmas. Catnip mice, flutterballs, new collars…that sort of thing.

Yes. And my brother’s dog, her cousin.

I used to buy gifts for my friends’ pets too when they were kittens & puppies (because we don’t have kids, we have pets) but we don’t even exchange human gifts anymore so none for the pets either.

My dog also gets birthday presents.

Yup. When we had a dog I think it was a little more common here–get him some of those doggie lollipops or something he can chew on. It’s a little harder buying for the cat since the only real option is a bag of cat treats (neither pet would touch a real toy), but this year she’s getting a ragball. Last year we got her a laser pointer and she quickly learned that jingling=pretty light to chase around.

My cat too. It got so if I was just pulling out my keychain she’d look at me.

I’ve got a little canvas mouse for the cat to play with, but she’ll probably enjoy the wrapping paper more.

I’m getting a little pissed off, frankly, at my pets. I buy them gifts every year, and on their birthdays (or hatch-days, or whatev) and not only do they never write me a thank you note, sometimes they just pee on the presents, and they have NEVER gotten me a single present, not even when I coo hints into their ears (or blowholes or whatev) that are, honestly, very explicit. You’d think even a fucking turtle would get the hint, wouldn’t you? Well, not mine. They just sit there in their fucking bowls, staring up at me like I’m not even talking. I’m disgusted, totally disgusted, at this point. I’m never buying that turlte another little turtle sweater, he can bet his last shell on that.

Now that just sucks pseudotriton ruber ruber. Talk about your ungrateful turtles :frowning:

My kitten always buys me stuff for Christmas, my birthday, and Mother’s Day. (Which just proves to me that she is on the computer when I’m not home. She’s an indoor kitty and wouldn’t be able to get to the store so she must be shopping online). But she always buys me things like tuna and canned salmon.

Usually I do but I haven’t gotten them anything this year. I probably will still get them a little something at the grocery store if I can remember. Last year the cats got way more than they deserved, the little tree-climbing bastards. They got a window seat and a cat grass planter. The dog just got a new bone. He’s always happy with that. I wanted to get my in-laws’ cats (one of whom is my cat Mama’s daughter and my cat Fuzzy’s sister) a window seat of their own but money ran a little short. Maybe next year.

Yes, we give the dog lots of presents. We give gifts to friends & family pets too.

I make dog treats for everyone’s dogs and she gets tons of presents.

I bought my cats a present when I was at the pet supplies store last week; since they don’t know from Xmas, I gave it to them right away when I came home (they were intrigued by the box anyway, so I thought I might as well open it).

It’s one of those toys that’s a plastic ring cut open around the rim, and there’s a little ball inside that the cats can poke their paws in at to bat around in circles. There’s also a central section with another ball that can be poked at through three paw-sized holes on top of the toy. After I opened the box, I demonstrated the entertainment functions of the new toy, batting at the balls with my fingertips to make them spin around, and the girls sat and watched me with polite interest, tails around their toes. They only started playing with it themselves after I left the room.

My parents sent our dog a Christmas card. It’s completely edible; made of rawhide and food-grade ink. Kinda neat, didn’t know they made such things. I can’t remember the name of the company that makes 'em, but I can check it when I get home if anyone expresses interest.

I don’t buy my own pets Xmas presents, but I buy presents for their “cousins” (my siblings’ pets) from mine and my pets generally get something from them.

If I didn’t buy a present for my cat, then I wouldn’t be buying any Christmas gifts.
