Are you getting a 360 on Tuesday, too? *Snoopy-dance*

Thanks to a friend of a co-worker, I was in a state of ecstacy when I got a call tonight. here’s the truncated version of the conversation:

Names changed to protect the guilty.

“Hey duffer, Jim here. Tim told me you’re looking for a 360.”

“Why yes. Yes I am. Can you help out?”

“We have about 30 coming in Sunday night, I was told to try to keep one for you”

“Awesome, I’ll be there around closing time to pick it up!”

“No. You have to wait until Tuesday…”

“ARGH! You’re killing me here Jim!”

“Look, the 360’s are the same as the original Box, they’re recorded at time of sale. We can’t sell them until Tuesday morning. Have a drink or 500 and wait. I’m doing Tim a favor with this.”

“Yeah, I know. Just really excited.”

“Just stop by about an hour before open and park in the back by the loading docks. I’ll ring it up when the registers open and bring it out to you. Hand me the cash and we’re done.”

“Cool. If you ever need someone killed, let me know”

“And don’t f*cking tell anyone about this, ever”

“OK”

Don’t anyone tell him I posted this.

“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” If ever a phrase was more apt, I can’t think of one. No chance of getting an employee discount on it, but there are a few games I’m looking at.
So fellow Dopers, are ya getting one? Are you ready to have your ass handed to you in Madden 2006? With my Pack sitting at 2-7 (amazingly 4 games out of first with 4 division games left to play) I’m ready to take over the NFL world! Who’s in?

You bastard…

I am getting one and I am really looking forward to Madden '06. I told the girl at the store that I’d give my left nut to get one of the ones they had in the back. She said she couldn’t help me. Trouble is that in my excitement I already hacked it off. Oh well, I wasn’t really using it anyway.

I would so like to see you on the opposite side of the scrimmage line soon!

I read this probably a half-dozen times before I realized that you were talking about the new X-Box 360.

Jeez!

I just bought an X-BOX a few months ago on ebaY.

Yeah… I’m always a few steps behind on the video-game scene.

Don’t feel so bad Grizz, my Atari finally bit the dust last year. Yeah, that Atari. From the late 70s.

They had Atari in the late 70’s?

Sure did. I got my Atari in 1978. This was my first game. Note the eye-popping graphics!

Wow, that’s news to me. I thought it was 80’s!

Now that’s hi-def!

I am sooo jealous right now. Damn you, duffer, and your inside connections. :stuck_out_tongue:

I won’t be able to get one until early next year. Hopefully about the time Halo 3 comes out. Let’s not even start on my PS3 lust that I probably won’t be able to slake before Christmas next year.

They had a dozen or so set up down in the lobby here at work yesterday so people could try them out. They looked pretty dang impressive.

Not that I’m getting one, mind you. I steer clear of consoles after buying a Nintento, Super Nintento, Sega Genesis, something else, and a Playstation, and realized that I was spending a crapload of money to just buy one or two games before the next cool console came out and I had to be it so I could play the one or two cool games on it…

duffer, as a gamer and the sister of a gamer, I could kill you right about now…

Meh. The launch titles for the 360 are… less than impressive. I’ll get one when more games start coming out for it.

You’re in luck Inigo Montoya. Hell, it even has Adventure.

I’m afraid I feel the same way. Unless Oblivion miraculously shows up on launch day, I’ll wait a bit. But grats anyway duffer. Don’t forget to give us a review.

Yawn. No thanks. I like my videogames like I like my sushi chefs…

I’ll gladly give you two 180s for a 360 on Tuesday.

</Wimpy>

I was all set to wait for the PS3 next year since I have had my PSX and PS2 since day one each. But I keep seeing the ads, and now the X-Box 360 is going to be backwards compatible (via software, not hardware which means you will need to spring for the hard drive) and I have been thinking about it. Seriously thinking about it.

Oblivion is late in the first quarter of 06 now.
I’m not going to get it for 360 anyway, I’m going to get it for PC.

I may be getting a 360 on Tuesday, if I get permission from the executive branch. Although I must agree that the selection of titles is not that impressive.

Damn right, I love Morrowind and wouldn’t play it on anything but PC…gotta have my mods and mouse. I’m getting a 360 mainly for Halo 3 and DOA 4. Any really good games that come out later are just gravy. Which brings me to

“Executive branch”…if you mean “the wife”, I’m right there with you. I just got approval to build a new computer now and get a 360 next year. I swear Congress doesn’t go through as much debate on a budget as I do on my toys. [sub]Actually, this is probably a good thing.[/sub] Cost me a $800.00 digital camera for her photo hobby, but I play more games than she goes out shooting sooo woot I win.

Now, convincing her I need a PS3…gonna have to work on that one for a little while. Wish me luck!

I did the ol’ pre-emptive strike in that arena. I told her last spring I was laying out the cash the moment I could get my hands on one. Her response was, “Well, if you can do it in a way that doesn’t affect the budget, I won’t say a word.” Or something like that. I don’t know. Once I get the feel that the door was open I kind of tuned everything else out.

Anyway, my company adds about 9 1/2 hours of PTO per pay period. In the last 7 months I’ve used roughly 15. And we have the option of just cashing it in. Yay me!

The best part is not only do I get the 360 for free (It’s time off I don’t use anyway) but I also have enough to get her the digital camera/printer system she wants for Christmas. And she doesn’t even know about that.
