Are you looking forward to "Serenity"?

I’ve heard some really good word-of-mouth about the Firefly movie coming up. Has anyone here heard much about it? Are you expecting much?

I’ve been in my bunk since October.

Can’t wait.
Can’t wait.
Can’t wait.

I know someone working on the film who wasn’t originally a fan. He says it’s fantastic. Lots of action. Don’t know anything about the plot but I want to keep it that way.

I’m a fan of the TV series, and I do indeed look forward to Serenity. I had read a number of things about the movie that have whetted my appetite ever more keenly, but I have deliberately stayed away from most of the likely news sources for a few months, so as not to build my hopes up too high. Even so, I tend to like movies that are about things I’m interested in, so it would have to be pretty bad for me to hate it. We’re talking on the level of what a fourth Batman or Aliens film might have been like, if someone had actually ever dared do so.*

*Please leave me my illusions. whimper

I’m having friends over on Sunday to watch “Our Mrs. Reynolds” and “Jaynestown,” so you bet your bippy I’m looking forward to the movie.

My expectations are very, very high. Dangerously so, in fact.

That said, I’m trying to remain as spoiler-free as possible. The temptations are great. Thus far, my willpower has been sufficient. I make no warranty for continuation of same.

I’m already in line…

Gorram, but I’ve been anticipating this movie. And it’s not due out until, what, fall?
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I can hardly contain myself. I’ve watched the DVD set through a couple of times now (by the way, the commentary on “Out of Gas” is great - Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion are hilarious together).

But I’m also a little worried, because I really, really want Serenity to kick this franchise into high gear. It’s too good to die, and I worry that if the film doesn’t do mega-business it’s the last we’ll hear of Firefly.

This show deserves to be the next franchise along the lines of Star Trek. It’s good enough. Better. Let’s hope the movie knock’s 'em dead.

Now that I’ve been thinking about Firefly, I have to go watch another episode.

Nitpick: Their commentary is on “War Stories,” the ep where Niska captures and tortures them. The commentary on “Out of Gas” is by writer Tim Minear and the director, whose name I don’t recall.

Oh, right you are. Shiny.

Can not wait - love love love the Firefly DVDs.

Shiny, indeed.

Yes, I can safely say that I am “looking forward” to seeing Serenity.

In fact, I’ve gotten most of my friends and family hooked in the series, and hopefully they’ll all support the movie by viewing it multiple times in theatre. Go Firefly franchise!!
In fact, I had this conversation with a friend of mine the other day (not quite verbatim, but the general gist):

ME
You finished watching those Firefly DVDs I lent you? I’m going into withdrawal and I really need them back.

FRIEND
(much with the resentment)
Yeah,I finished.

ME
Good.

FRIEND
(under his breath)
If you were a good friend you’d let me keep them longer.

ME
What was that?

FRIEND
Nothing. It’s a brilliant show. I’m sure the movie will be fantastic. I’ll only have to wait through * more than half a year* of Firefly-deprivation before it comes out.

ME
Getting a little weary of this attitude, Friend.

FRIEND
Are you? Well I’m very sorry about that. I guess the news that we’re all gonna be watching crappy reality television and formulaic tv shows for the forseeable future has made me little snippy.

ME
It’s possible someone might pick up the series [Firefly] again.

FRIEND
(pissed)
No, Waenara. It’s not possible. Nobody’s gonna pick up the damn series. Fox “flew it under the radar,” and gave it crappy, random, constantly changing timeslots remember? Well, that’s where we are: the show’s dead in the water, and Fox won’t be interested in reviving it.

ME
Then make it go further. Spread the word to everyone you know. Tell them how great the show it. Sign petitions.

FRIEND
What?

ME
Make the show go further.

FRIEND
Can’t make it go further.

ME
Not if all you’re gonna do is sit here and whine about it, no.

FRIEND
What do you expect me to do, Waenara?

ME
(building)
Whatever you have to. And if you can’t do it from here, then you put on a jacket and go over to Best Buy and…

FRIEND
(voice rising)
And what? Wave my arms around?

ME
Wave your arms around, jump up and down. Buy a couple copies of the DVD. Use them to convert you friends into Firefly fans. Whatever.

FRIEND
Buy the…? Right. Because teenage pranks are fun when the show you love has died!

ME
Give the show a boost, wouldn’t it?

FRIEND
Yes. It’d boost the show, but even if some random people did happen to receive the good word about Firefly, all it’d do is give more money to Fox. I don’t want them to profit off the corpse of this wonderful show!

ME
Could be that’s true.

FRIEND
Damn right it’s true! They’d be forced to pay attention to how the DVDs are flying off the shelves. Heck, that happened to Family Guy after it got FOXed, and now they brought it back on the air with new episodes!
A beat as my friend let’s what he just said sink in. He snaps:
FRIEND
Well, maybe I should do that, then!

ME
(snapping back)
Maybe you should!

FRIEND
Okay!

ME
Good!

FRIEND
Fine!

Irony check, aisle 3! okay, so I liked the movie, sue me.

[Die Hard Hans Gruber]Ladies and Gentlemen, Ladies and Gentelmen![/Die Hard Hans Gruber]

Foremost, we must bear in mind that we may be lucky that the series died before we had to sit through “Firefly, the Musical”.

It has great potential, but How Many Times can the Bad Guy threaten to kill his hostage and Captain shoots him through the eye?

I’m counting down the days. FUck, it’s killing me.

Yes. Yes I am.

Absolutely! I haven’t been looking forward to a movie this much in…geez, ever, I guess.

Only until the word spreads among other bad guys that Mal’s pretty damn quick on the draw.

You bet’cha
