Serious question for elfkin, if you don’t mind answering…
I’ve noticed a similar sentiment expressed before and although I’ve seen some of what you’re talking about, I’m probably on the ‘wrong’ side of the fence to have noticed it overtly. However, if it is as bad as it sounds according to your post, I’m not sure I could deal with it if I felt the same way. I mean, if that’s how I perceived things on say, a really conservative, fundamentalist type board, I wouldn’t post there. Why do people subject themselves to things they think are unjust if they don’t get anywhere changing things?
I hope that makes sense and no, I have no desire to see you leave. I like reading your posts and am honestly curious why anyone would put up with something they feel is so far off.
Now I apologize for hijacking and thank you for your time.

I can’t speak for elfkin, of course, but for me, I would say that this is the best general-interest board on the web, and while I do think I’m in the minority in terms of some of my opinions, it’s not like this is a board with an agenda, so to speak.
There is one other board I go to that is also basically also a general-interest board, but the people tend to lean way way more to the right of me. Neither that board nor this one set out to be a representative of a specific point of view politically, but like minds tend to gravitate together, I think. Mods can’t (or shouldn’t, IMO) control that.
The bottom line, for me, is that I don’t think that this board is run overall with a bias. Are the people on it biased, even the mods? Of course, we all are to one degree or another. Do I find it anywhere close to intolerable? No.
That all being said, I’ve been thinking about why the banning of TLDR/VCO3 put me off so much. I think it’s because I really do see him as being the person he presented here. I think lissener is not far off with the of TLDR/VCO3 characterization as a guy who sees himself as standing out of the mainstream, and everything about his demeanor and opinions has to reflect that. The part I don’t agree with is that this is necessarily the definition of trolling. I see “trolling” as a kind of hat a person puts on. That is, they act in a way that is specifically designed to create a kerfluffle, and does not actually relate to the person’s true personality and/or POV. I don’t think (and this is just my opinion based on my observation of TLDR/VCO3) that what he presented here is any kind of put-on.
