I am having trouble imagining any standards of trolldom that that asshole DIDN’T meet. I offered to pay him to go away once, but I couln’t afford his price. I nearly started a thread to solicit donations to pay him off and send him packing.
Good riddance, and thank you mods, for saving me money.
Don’t know/don’t care if he was a troll, but I don’t buy the valued contributor thing- 90% of his posts were in his own threads, which all could be placed in one of three categories- what’s your opinion of this genius obscure work I uncovered, how do I go about doing something bizarre/mundane, and the type that got him banned- perhaps a miscarraige of justice, but no loss for the board.
Same here. I think he brought some wonderful insight to the board (or could have, if people took more of his posts at face value and ignored who posted them). I would’ve liked to see him stay, but it really is his own fault, and I wasn’t remotely surprised to see him gone after the threads he posted last night.
Throw me in the group of not surprised. but I enjoy watching the trolls its entertaining and now my secret hope of a TLDR / 2.5 troll off is forever crushed.
Gee, as a newbie it sure seems that way to me. But you know, Q.E.D., you seem to be as much into the whole thing as that longnamed person. If threads are so “UN-SDMB”, why don’t you hit the Notify button to have them locked or deleted? Instead, you make it your special calling to start a stream of blather until it’s locked, and then not deleted at all.
From my perspective, if the SDMB didn’t like trolling it wouldn’t make the troll threads more prominent by locking and leaving them up.
So, excuse me for finding your position hypocritical. I blame you as much as long name for this more disgusting side of the board. No offense intended, just registering a different viewpoint to wake you up that there are some.
Well, thank god he’s gone, there were actually some interesting and amusing threads here in the pit recently. We can’t have that, otherwise those folks with the psychological defect that forces them to read every thread on the board might get the uncomfortable feeling of their shit being stirred.
Not surprised. He plainly deserved banning under the rules of the board, but he didn’t bother me. He reminded me of the great old Usenet trolls, like the late Plain and Simple Cronan, who could be a valuable poster or a big ol’ troll, pretty much entirely depending on his mood.
Heh, I didn’t realize till I read this thread that the guy with the long string of random letters for a name was VC03.
I, for one, don’t think he was a troll. A jerk of massive proportions, but not a troll. Of course, being a jerk is against the rules here.
And I think that the thread about the woman going into the burning building was intended seriously. VC03 often showed a tendency to over-apply his own opinions.
