Are you serious? You guys just banned TLDR?

The Dope should take a lesson from American Idol: when someone’s “voted off” for trolling they should be allowed to open one last thread.

I hope TPTB will reconsider and make this a temporary suspension if VCO3 is at all inclined toward reform.

The last topic that he posted may not have been appropriate for that particular news story, but I would like to see the subject discussed anyway.

He isn’t. It’s gotten progressively worse.

Doesn’t mean I won’t miss him.

PS: I regret that he denied sharing even an anonymous email address.

I asked, and tried a couple of times. Would have been nice to have a beer with that wacky asshole.

Well, that’s kind of a bummer–I think there’s a place in the world for entertaining trolls, considering how totally humdrum most of them tend to be. And TLDRETC had a whole lotta entertainment goin’ on aside from the fabulous target he presented for Bryan Ekers schtick which was, by the way, fucking funny.

Our own Ignatius J. Reilly indeed!

. . . . where they get to sing a poor rendition of the song that got them kicked off in the first place. I don’t think so.

I don’t think he was a troll either, but having dealt with some people in cyberspace who have aspergers, bi-polar disorder, depression, and whatnot, I’d have to vote that cruel or not, they’re not going to learn to behave in a normal manner anytime soon. Maybe if they came back a year later and said, “I’ve gotten new medication that’s changed me.”, that might be worth verifying. But a person’s medication isn’t something the mods nor the other board members can change through endless debates, pittings, and warnings. There might not even be a medication that works for the person at all.

Overall it comes down to the choice of letting the person drive down the quality of the board, or cutting them loose.

I had a person with aspergers stalking me in World of Warcraft trying to make me understand “just how lonely” they felt. I can sympathise for their situation, but having someone stalk me wasn’t going to continue regardless of whether they had ill-will or no.

Sorry for the off-topic question, but I’ve been away from the board for a time, and I 'm not sure I’m remember correctly : we have been allowed again to call people troll, or am I mistaken? And if yes, does it it applies only in the Pit, or can we call a poster on his (assumed) trolling in other forums?

I actually felt like he was being serious in his last thread. I know more than a few people who seriously question the “Cult of the Child.” Now, they may be wrong or off, but I think that they usually present their cases sincerely.

Forum Rules for the BBQ Pit: read this before posting

Yes, you can, but in the Pit only. It’s in the rules sticky.

Wow. And Gawddamn.

I’m sorry to see the ignorant-acting s.o.b. exiled.

For one thing, I had a lot of fun giving him hell yesterday.

His posts were usually interesting even when they were dumb or irksome, and he was often pretty comical, either on purpose or unconsciously out of sheer unconsciousness.

Lastly it is kind of worrisome to me, because I can see myself all too easily in the future as becoming the next irascible crazy with disfavored opinions who nobody likes and everyone calls a loon or a troll or an imbecile, and who gets banned for being a daft, obnoxious prick.

Perhaps once, but not any more. What do you think this is - the 1960s?

I suspect that mere self awareness of the type your post contains is in itself a contra-indicator of the possibility.

I think the mods made the right decision.

With regard to the thread in question, I think that any parent would do - or try to do - the same. We’ve recently had a fair few threads about what parents would do for their children which bear this out.

Sarahfeena, have you read half of his “why do black people do such and such” thread?

Thank you

Well… knowing it was going to happen doesn’t make it any less annoying.

Oooh, I forgot about this thread. Damn, what a sick fuck. And even if he wasn’t serious, then that was some SERIOUS trolling.

Asshole, either way.
