My father was 5’11", my mother was 5’2", and I topped out at 6’3". I’m 6’2" now at age 62.
Hey, I could be your daughter in that trio. While both my parents are taller than me, mom has a lot of short ancestors (she was the tallest in her family for many years), and my dad also has a few short ones, although not as many as in my mom’s side. I guess all my height-related genes defaulted to “short”.
Dad was 5’11" and I’m 6’2"; both brothers are a little taller than me.
An exhibit in the Smithsonian 37 years ago said, on average, children grow to be two inches taller than their gender equal parent.
My father used to be 1.78 m (now he is 80 and about my size), and I’m 1.72 m. I blame my mother’s family for giving me the small gene, she’s about 1.60 m and her parents and brothers were/are relatively small. My sister is about the size of my mother.
I voted “male and shorter” since it was true for most of our lives. But Papa Bear is 89 now and has shrunk a bit and I might have a couple of millimeters on him.
How can this be possible? On average, shouldn’t we all be giants by now?
It’s only been two generations. Give it time.
My father is marginally taller than me. At the moment.
I’ma woman and taller than both parents.
Mom is 5’2".
Dad is (or was, he’s shrinking) 6’2".
I am female and 5’2.5". I usually say 5’2", though.
Identical twin is 5’4." We’re not that identical.
I’m the middle-born of 3 brothers, and we’re all taller than Dad. Dad was 6’ even, older bro is 6’1", younger bro is 6’2", and I’m 6’4". Mom was 5’8", which was a pretty tall gal for those days.
My father are about the same height now, but that’s varied over the course of my adult life.
He was slightly taller when I was in my 20s, lost enough height over the years to be about an inch shorter by a couple of years ago, then a hip replacement restored some of his leg length.
Although Dad has passed, assuming you meant when he was alive – I am taller than my father and older brother; he is taller than Dad. All three of us are taller than mother.
Male, 5’11"
Father was 5’10"
Mother was 5’2"
My wife is 5’1" and my daughters are turning out to be shrimps in the less than 1 percentile for height. Hopefully my son will grow a bit more.
My mom is 5’3" and I’m 5’4". But she also has short arms that don’t fully straighten, so the difference seems like more in terms of being able to reach things.
Dad and brother are both about 5’11".
None of my father’s four sons are taller than he is. He’s 5’11", we’re between 5/8" and 5/10". Our mother is 5’4", as is our sister.
I’m 6’2". My dad is 5’10". Mom is 5’9". My sister is also 5’9", but she had her growth plate closed up due to needing knee surgery. They say she would have been 5’11" or 6’0".
I remember noticing how often kids were taller than their parents back in high school. I began to think it was pretty much universal. Though I admit I focused on taller people–I only started paying attention when people started being taller than me in school. I didn’t pay much attention to anyone more than, say, 4 inches shorter than me. So I was definitely biased.
Mom is 5’2"-3". Dad was 5’8"-9".
I’m 5’6". I tower over most of my mother’s family. She’s one of the tall ones.
Mother was 5’ even. Both sisters 5’2".
I’m 5’6"
I’m female and about an inch taller than my mother. If I keep losing height at my current rate, I’ll end up shorter than her.
