Are you watching the debate tonight?

Sure it’s a stunt episode, but tonight’s episode of The West Wing is going to be a live debate between Alan Alda and Jimmy Smits, in character as two presidential candidates. I presume, of course, that the debate has actually be scripted in advance, but I’m still interested in seeing it.

I’m watching. I haven’t watched more than a couple episodes this season, but I’m hoping this will get me into the show again.

I am. Because of Jimmy Smits. And I make no apologies for that, either. It doesn’t take much to keep me interested in this show. As long as Smits is around, so am I.

Santos got run over, I think.

And…what was that whole Ellen thing? That was…dumb.

More like Jimmy Smits (whom I like) got run over by Alan Alda. It reminded me of those “Diva” shows on MTV where wannabe’s like Christina Aguilara just get chewed up and spit out when Aretha Franklin takes the stage.

It was an interesting experiment but it did nothing to advance the storyline of the show. I thought they’d throw in a plot twist, but it was just a rather pablum debate. What happened to abortion? That was the main issue for the last few weeks and not a mention tonight.

Yeah, Santos got trashed, but I don’t think it was written that way. Wonder if it comes off that way in the west. And how they’ll handle it on the show.
