Area 51: Current state, operational logistics, secrecy logistics

I’ve never had much interest in the whole Area 51 conspiracy theory but the whole “Do you believe?” thread got me to look up the wiki article. But I still have questions:

What is the current state of the facility? Is it considered active? How many people are there at a given time? Do they live on the grounds? Where do they come and go from? How many people have worked there over the past 40 years?
Who does maintenance on the place? Outside contractors? Are they all military?

If there really is or was alien stuff going on there how do you keep that many people quiet about it? You’d think there would be some peon who served food in the Area 51 cafeteria or cleaned the bathrooms that would anonymously get info to the media or leave detailed notes to be found after their death.
Is it even logistically possible to run a major facility without info leaks?
I’m sure top secret stuff can be kept top secret when shared among a handful of top military officials, scientists, and engineers but as that number grows past say 10 people over 40 years you’d think someone would give a hint to what’s there.

Maybe they have? Maybe I’m just not looking in the right place?

I dunno. Maybe they print up their own milk cartons for internal use.

I have no idea what specific engineering or other operations may be going on at the Groom Lake facility, but during July 2007, I noted at least three of of the famous ‘Janet’ 727s leaving or arriving at McCarren Airport in Las Vegas, over the course of a mere couple of hours. Assuming the destination was Groom, there’s still quite a lot of employment for someone there.
