I am in the process of building a new computer. I sat down, researched, read reviews, and bought the things I need. First thing to piss me off was that I forgot to order my hard drive with the rest of the order. I am a dumb ass. What really pisses me of is that I ordered the wrong freaking memory. I was looking for PC4300 533Mhz DDR2. I ended up ordering PC4200 533Mhz DDR1. ARGGGG!!!
I can return it, but I have to pay shipping and a 15% restocking fee. Piss me off.
What a pain in the arse.
This isn’t related, but in my experience, RAM is the component of a computer most likely to fail straight out of the box. I will no longer purchase memory on line because of this. The last time I purchased online, I got crappy RAM that wouldn’t operate at its advertised speed, and was stuck with it due to their punitive return policies. Fuck that shit. I’ll buy local and pay the 20% premium in case I need to return it.
I am starting to learn that. I thought about selling it on ebay, but if it is defective, then I am out the money and the ram. Best just to eat the restock fee and learn. Still pissed.
I haven’t used them yet, but some other Dopers have mentioned Crucial as a good online memory source. Me, I just go to Fry’s and deal with the return gauntlet if need be.
A pc store near me has an incredibly open return policy when it comes to RAM because it fails so often.
