Argh! A Friend Got Bilked in a Credit Card Scam!

Dammit! I should pit these scammers!

A bogus “Holiday Travel” company called a friend who is… slow. She has a big heart, but she has some serious learning disabilities (to the point where she is on a disability pension). They said she’d won a free trip, but just had to pay the taxes on it.

They charged her card $900.

She doesn’t think she can get it back, but I’m going to meet up with her after work to help her sort it out. See what exactly they did, how they did it, what her credit card company has to say about the possibilities of a chargeback etc.

Man, if I ever get my paws on those cretins they’re gonna have so many crayons stuck up their butts they’ll be poopin’ in technicolour for months!

So, I know there are a few Dopers who’ve worked with credit card companies, any advice?

I feel for your friend. I basically never answer the phone if I don’t know the number. I hope there is some way she can get the $900 back. You’re a good friend for helping her with this. Good luck!!

No advice, just Good Luck. Give the fuckers what they deserve.

If she didn’t sign anything, that’s a plus. She should call her credit card company and explain the situation. Usually they put the payment in “dispute”. Then it is the obligation of the payee to prove there is money due. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works.
