Yeah, so our master bathroom shower was disintegrating. We weren’t sure how much damage there would be in the walls, but we were worried. The shower pan had evidently failed and the walls were getting damp.
We ordered a solid-surface kit and when it arrived, the construction guys came over and did a beautiful job demolishing our shower. Then they opened up the giant crate the shower kit had come in–and there was no shower pan. Upon further inspection, it turned out that all the slabs had been badly packed and were broken.
So we re-ordered the kit and told them to pack it right this time. (I spent some time on the phone with the customer-service woman and was given nothing but run-around and denial.) Today it arrived, and my construction guy went to get it. He opened it up to inspect it, and…the main slab is broken.
So now I have to go pick out a new solid-surface kit from a different company which will take a couple of weeks to arrive. Instead of the expected one week, we will be showerless for probably a month. Yay for home-improvement projects!
(Don’t get me wrong; I love my construction guys and they do great, timely, professional work. The shower manufacturers, however–I don’t know how that company even stays in business.)
Would you mind sending me a PM with the troublesome manufacturer’s name? We’re about to put in a new bathroom, and I’d like to avoid what you’ve gone through. Thanks!
I don’t understand crap like that, and it seems to happen all the time to people I know. I’ve gotten very lucky and not really had situations like that, but even so, it’s a challenge.
Ugh. Broken Corian/Silestone/whatever is no fun! Especially when it’s between you and using the bathroom again. Who’s the poor sap that’s been having to lug the stuff around?
So where are you on the Remodeling Project Mushroom scale? Two weeks ago, a project that should have been two hours, tops, to install closet organizers morphed into two days and two evenings spent re-arranging the bedroom furniture, painting, replacing the outlets and light switches, replacing the bathroom mirror, installing new towel rings and a new shower curtain rod and installing Malibu lights in the back yard. Plus! Musings about replacing the bedroom TV and nightstands, and wondering what color the hypothetical new carpet should be.
I still haven’t got a gol-danged clue how Malibu lights became part of the bedroom closet project.
sniff You’re starting to stink, lady…
Heh. Luckily the kids’ bathroom has a tub/shower which we use. It’s not anywhere near as comfy as our own shower, though.
I daren’t let this project muchroom out of control–we’re suffering from sticker shock right now! We just put up a new fence in the back (it was blown down in a storm), and right before that we installed a new front door since the old one was badly sun-damaged. Also, the little car just died and we were already planning to get a new car this spring to replace our van, which isn’t doing all that well either.
So, even though I don’t like the floor in the bathroom and this would be a perfect time to get rid of it and put in something better, I am exercising remarkable self control. I’m not even thinking about replacing the tile counter and sinks in the bathroom, which will not match the new shower at all and are kind of old and yucky. (That will happen next year.)
