My second 360 just red ringed. I’m so pissed. Why do we (the consumers) put up with this thing? It’s such a piece of crap.
If I’m able to, I’m gonna take it back to Gamestop and see if they can replace it (I bought a warranty but it was so long ago that I don’t remember the specifics). If I do get a replacement and that one works, I’m immediately going to sell it on Ebay and the proceeds are going to a PS3.
If I can’t get a new one I’m taking this thing to the shooting range and I’m going to take my vintage 1915 Swedish Mauser to it. I’m totally serious.
I don’t even care anymore about hardware specs and game selection. I want a console and I already have a Wii (which I don’t like) so I’m definitely going to buy a PS3. I’m not even going to read about it. I’ve never owned a Sony console since my PSX back in like 1995. I never even owned a PS2. I don’t care. It can have a library of 4 titles; I don’t give a shit; it’s not an Xbox and that’s good enough for me.
Fuck Microsoft, fuck my best friend for convincing me to buy an Xbox, fuck me for sinking more than a dime on this absolutely horrible piece of ass.
Mundane and pointless, I know. Sorry. I am really really angry right now.
What the hell? Did I suddenly warp back to 2006? Is this really still an issue? I’m not criticizing you What, I just honestly thought that this was resolved. Not that the problem was fixed, but that everyone who was sick of the red ring had moved on, while the die-hard 360 fans had adapted. I’m in the second camp myself. I’m on, I think, my 4th console, the previous 3 having red-ringed and been repaired/replaced under warranty. My current console has lasted for probably 3 years. I keep it in an open cabinet with no other electronics to cut down on heat, and I only operate it in the horizontal orientation. I also sacrifice a goat and spin around three times while chanting the sacred rites before turning it on. Seems to have worked so far, although I’m running low on goats now.
One of mine ate it, but not to rings. It just kept crunching games…nearly in half  It would leave DEEP scratches on them. Now I have the MW2 250GB model and its been going great
If it’s the classic 3-ringed RROD you’re much better off than any other crippling error; MS have a 3-year warranty for the E-74, so they’ll fix the damn thing gratis.
Depends, the console that he bought could have been one of the original 360’s that was refurbed and resold.
What to look for on the 360 is just above the power cord receptacle, if it says 16 volts , run very fast. My 14 volt is just fine and the newer 12 volt systems are the latest rev and have not had the red ring problem as far as I know.
I’ve seen that…how does that happen? A friend showed me some of his most-played 360 discs, and they had deep grooves etched into them. I thought the games were read by a laser?
Well, you’re going to love your PS3. The library has really ramped up their selection in the last year, and you’ll have plenty to keep busy with. I don’t care much about the console war, as all three have enough games to keep most people up to their balls in quality titles. Got any particular genres you enjoy so we can steer you in the right direction?
We’re about to get a new Xbox 360 as our old one died It’s out of warranty and was bought on ebay to begin with. I hope the new one doesn’t die, too. This thread has me nervous.
Coincidentally, mine (2nd) just bricked about an hour ago, but apparently it’s still under warranty. I noticed after talking to tech support that MS doesn’t send you a box and packing materials anymore though. You need to furnish them yourself.
I always wondered about the RROD, why produce a product that comes with a stonking big “I’M BROKEN” indicator?
My GC died, the disc drive reading ever more erratically until I gave up and bought another. No fuss, just quietly stopped loading games until it got to the good ones and I stumped up the cash for another.
How do you think I felt when my older laptop couldn’t handle Peggle?!
Yes. Peggle.
Apparently, I’m not a “Gamer”*. I got my 360 last October, and it is still plugging away. Then again, the guy at the store said that the RROD wasn’t really a problem anymore, and to not put it into an entertainment center shelf. (Good thing too, cause that’s where I was going to put it.)
It now lives on top of a waist high shelf, space all around it, except for the bottom, obviously.
*The same guy said my 360 shouldn’t RROD unless “you play it for 25 hours straight”. If this is anywhere close to the metric for being a ““Gamer””, count me out. I doubt I’ve put in 4 hours straight on it.
Then again, I guess mentioning Peggle doesn’t help my case either.
