So, a couple weeks ago I sent my XBox 360 in for repairs.
For the third time.
But that’s not what this rant is about.
See, today I wanted to check on the status of the repairs. You can do this online. I have the order number for the repair. Should be simple, right? Of course not! The online tracker requires you to register the console, first, so it knows which MicroSoft product you want to know about. Registering a device requires a serial number. Which is on the back of the console. Which I mailed to MicroSoft two weeks ago.
Microsoft has, bar none, the worst customer service department I’ve ever dealt with. It’s especially embarrassing considering their next door neighbor (Nintendo) offers what may be perhaps the industry’s very best support.
I like the 360, but I am no fan of the shit they’ve put me through when contacting customer service.
Just another good reason to keep an excel file with all your serial numbers of expensive stuff. Not only for things like this, but for insurance reasons too.
What is the problem here? You walked into the correct location, and gave MicroSoft your money, fulfilling your tiny part of the Plan. Your part is concluded, you may go.
Now, if you take a MS product with you, you are announcing some rather unreasonable assumptions, but that’s your business exclusively, MicroSoft dismisses such assumptions evenhandedly, without reference to race or creed.
