Argh. My eye.

My eye is (sort of) irritated. Also, bloodshot. For absolutely no apparent reason. No cold or allergies, no violent beatings about the head. Just for fun, I guess.

This happened last week, too, only without the irritation. I woke up one morning and, hey, left eye? Not normal. No pain or itchiness or anything, just that creepy bloodshot look.

Then it went away, and I rejoiced, because I don’t enjoy looking like I got punched in the face.

Now it’s back. It wasn’t this morning. Now it is, and my eye is watering like crazy. Which means that that really sensitive little bit of skin between my nose and eye is getting irritated because I keep wiping at it.

It’s making me very grumpy, and I thought you should all know. (Also, I’m trying to keep myself awake to watch election results role in. Stupid time zones. And I can hardly see with glasses on, so I don’t want to take out my contacts, which probably isn’t helping my eye any. Plus, I wanted to put this in the Pit, but realized it’s way too mild and mundane.)

It could be pinkeye, which can be highly contagious. Your doctor can give you some eye drops for it if it is.

Do you rub your eyes a lot? I have dry, allergic eyes, and I have to keep my fingers out of them or they’ll get irritated right away.

If you do have pinkeye, I suppose your doctor will advise you what to do with your contacts so you don’t re-infect your eye with them.

Earache, my eye!

Another angry pirate victim.

NinjaChick, take those contact lenses out immediately! I don’t care if you can’t see well with glasses. It could be your contacts and/or the solutions for them that is causing this.

Tomorrow morning, call your eye doctor, tell them what is going on and get thee down there ASAP!

Okay? Please?

Take out your contacts this minute. And yes, go to the doctor tomorrow.

It could easily be your contacts that are causing the problem, and if it isn’t them, they’re only making whatever-it-is worse. It could be a virus, an infection, the dreaded eye fungus, or your eyes starting to object to wearing contacts. You only have one set of eyes; take care of them!

A Word of Warning: two years ago I became suddenly and inexplicably allergic (or something) to my contacts. It was extremely painful. I wore glasses for two years and am now enjoying a new type of lens.

Yeah, that’s what I want to change my advice to - take out your contacts and get to an eye doctor (ohfertheluvof…I almost typed that “i doctor” - SOMEbody needs to go to bed). Didn’t we have a thread here way back about people who practically went blind because they wouldn’t stop wearing septic contacts? Where did I hear about that?

Contacts are out - I’ll leave them out today and, if my eyes look better tomorrow, start a new pair. cue grumbling about stupid, stupid eyes which don’t bloody work right

Unless it becomes life-threatening, no doctor, because I have no insurance, can’t afford to pay a doctor, and could not afford any prescription he gave me.

If you start a new pair of contacts and they start up again, you might want to get some medicated eye drops (I AM NOT A DOCTOR, THIS IS JUST WHAT I DID IN YOUR SITUATION). Helped me immeasurably - turned out I had a bunch of microscopic scratches and tears on my eye from dusting the week before. Also, try not to rely on the contact lenses - if you’re just sitting around the house, watching TV or something, take the lenses out and slap on the crappy glasses. Contacts can screw up your eyes if you have them in for too long anyway. Here’s hoping for the best.

I used to have that same problem, and it turned out I had developed an allergy to the contact solution I’d been using. I switched kinds and the problem went away.

Now I don’t wear contacts, because I work in a lab, but the dry air, fluorescent lights, computer screens and night shifts are giving me such pretty bloodshot eyes again. And beautiful dark puffy circles, too. Sigh. I’m going to look very old very quickly if I keep this up.
