I’m no particular fan of Arnold but what does it matter if he’s an actor and has no specific political experience? LOTS of people enter politics with zero political experience, and lots of them come from a wide variety of occupations that have zero to do with politics. Some of them end up being good and some don’t. From where does this perception come that because he’s an ACTOR he must be especially incompetent and have no business whatsoever running for governor? Just because he’s an actor doesn’t make him a “moron.” And no matter what you think of him, anyone looking at what he’s done with his life thus far has to admit he can’t be completely stupid. No matter that he has a “funny accent” and “can’t pronounce English words correctly.” I never knew those were two factors that precluded intelligence.
Anyway, if the people of California think he’s going to be so incredibly awful, they can choose not to vote for him. If he even runs.
Scary part is if this dumbass recall gets pushed through and he makes it on the ballot, you know he’ll get elected. Unless Feinstien goes on the ballot. Then the demos at least have a chance of staying in office.
Schwarzenegger knows how to get things done his way. He knows how to deal with people. He knows how to push ideas and proposals through yards and yards of red tape. He knows how to get people to like him. These are skills that transfer nicely to the political arena.
Also, he has the well-earned self-confidence that comes with starting out with virtually nothing and working your way to the top. After the challenges he’s faced in his life, I’d say that political struggles are relatively routine. What’s going to scare him? Lobbyists?
As has been pointed out, he is also pretty intelligent. People look at the muscles, hear the accent and think “knuckle-dragger.” Just remember that this knuckle-dragger has done it all, and he’s done it his way.
To clarify, I wasn’t seriously trying to say that Arnold was a moron: as i said, tons of people get this wrong. It just irritates me to no end when someone tries to manhandle revolutionary patriotism to serve some present political desire, mangling history as they go. My dig at actors was entirely based on conservative rantings about non-conservative celebrities stealing their personal limelights.
The dumbest thing a politician can do is “misunderestimate” his competition. They did it with Eisenhower, they did it with Reagan, they did it with Bush Jr., and they might well do it with Schwartzenegger.
Surprisingly, I can’t find any sites which mention any of Ramtha’s famous members, even Linda Evans, who is an admitted follower of her. The only reference I can find to Mike Farrell and cults is a blurb for a book on cults.
Right, and Heidi Fleiss was just “running a business.” One has to question a person’s credibility at taking such a job. Sure, maybe Farrell needed the money because the royalties from MASH** just weren’t enough to make his mortgage payment, but I doubt it.
I find it interesting that IMDB doesn’t mention the program, but Yahoo movies does.
Your post is a hijack. If you want to debate the 22nd Amendment please start another thread. If you have something on point to offer here, by all means do so.
And try to put in all the letters. I thought this was going to be about calculus.
And learn how to spell while you’re at it. (I usually never point out people’s spelling mistakes, but since that post was such an obvious attempt at hijacking, not to mention just plain lame, I couldn’t resist. Sorry.)
No fan I of Mike Farrell’s politics, with the exception of sharing his distaste for the death penalty.
But you cannot hold an acting job against him. He’s an actor. Should we refuse to consider a political job for Anthony Hopkins because of his tendancy towards cannibalism?
If he, in his proper persona, supported some nutcake, then let’s see the evidence. The only way his acting becomes relevant, in my view, is if he did the job for little or no pay because he was such an ardent supporter.
