I don’t intend to praise or defend Karr, but that wasn’t a confession. It was bragging to a correspondent in another country, using a pseudonym. Yes, I’d investigate something like that. Yes, I might have him held in Thailand, but on a reasonable charge, like “skipped town with 5 pending child porn counts,” while I got a collateral report from his family about his whereabouts on Christmas, 1996. Yes, I’d get DNA if he looked like the right guy. Yes, I might fly him to California to face actual consequences of his actions there. Yes, I’d fly him business class so that I did not endanger him or another person seated in a 3-person row. But he didn’t “confess.” And my guess is that he is not “attention seeking” but mentally ill, and that he thinks he did it.
Your OP, despite your attempts to “clarify” your meaning, gives a big Fuck You to the media because of the confession. You’re now trying to rewrite it as something it clearly wasn’t.

I don’t think you have explained to anyone’s satisfaction why THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT of John Karr being arrested is reason for the media to apologize to the Ramsays, unless you believed him to be guilty and therefore exonerates them beyond a shadow of a doubt. If he is NOT guilty, then how does this incident change anything? How is this supposed to indicate to the media or anyone else that the suspicion cast on the family was wrong?
And what does your not being in the media have to do with anything?
It was taunt because it was going to force them to have to give credence to an alternative suspect in the case. That’s all it ever was. You’re inferring something I never intended to imply.
Jesus Christ. The post that you quoted me from (where I said they must have a good reason for extradicting him) wasn’t IN my OP and the cops were already saying they wanted to fly him back from the second the story was broken. The actual extradiction took a few days but it was already in the news that an extradiction was in the works from the word go.
Let me be the first one in this thread to admit he was wrong. In Diogenes’ second post, he clarified that he was not assuming that Karr was guilty. This was far before the evidence came out that while Karr was a loon, he was not a guilty loon. While the first post was not clear, the second one confirms what Diogenes is saying.
I can see how this one line would be read as a presumption of guilt but it was unintentional on my part. I should have said “Will there be any apologies if this guy is guilty?” That’s what was in my mind, anyway. I never meant to imply that I thought it was a done deal, and I got as supicious as everyone else pretty quickly (I posted in one of these threads that I thought he was probably delusional like the day after I posted this OP).
I thought everybody was reacting to the “fuck you,” (which I intended as a taunt) but now I can see it was “any apologies” part which I barely remembered writing and which represents an excited incoherence and incompleted thought while I was composing it rather than an intentional accusation or presumption of guilt.

Sarahfeena I keep bringing up the media thing because that’s who my OP was directed at. I was saying FU to everyone who thought the Ramseys were guilty but specifically to the media who had always refused to humor any other possibility and who (I felt) had added grievous insult to an already grievously injured family.

I see what you mean, but it seemed like you were doing the same thing that the media had done, and even though you are not a member of the media, it does not make it right to jump to erroneous conclusions.
