OTTAWA - Jessie Sansone and his family are reeling after he was arrested and strip searched by police after his four-year-old daughter drew a picture of a man with a gun in her Kitchener, Ont., kindergarten class.

Waterloo Police met Sansone at the school when he tried to pick up his kids he was told he was charged with possession of a firearm. He was then handcuffed and put him in one of the several squad cars waiting outside, he said.

While Sansone was being strip searched at the police station: told to disrobe, lift his testicles and bend over, his wife was home with their 15-month-old daughter.

“They came to my house, told my wife that I had been charged with possession of firearms, that she would have to come with them, and that Sundae (their infant daughter) would have to go with the social worker,” said Sansone. Stephanie called her Mom who rushed over to take Sundae instead.

Ah the heaven that is Canada…

If I was this man I’d be suing the school, school board and police department.

It’s not a crime yet in Canada to posses a firearm. Too bad the long gun registry is gone in Canada they could of checked to see if that firearm that was drawn was registered.

I can’t even believe this. He was arrested and charged based on a drawing by a 4 yo? Damn. I’m glad no one got a hold of the pictures my kid drew.

“You are under arrest for suspected possession of a jet plane and a Poo Monster.”

And even if it was, is a drawing of a gun really probable cause for a strip search and search of their house? Does Canada have some version of the ACLU that’s going to get involved?

Is the Toronto Sun the Canadian equivalent of The National Enquirer? I ask because this story doesn’t really add up. Owning a gun is not illegal in Canada so being arrested for “possession of a firearm” doesn’t make any sense at all.

Also, the article states, "Sansone had a scrape with the law five years ago, but has since turned his life around, left Toronto for Kingston, Ont., and has become a certified counsellor.

While Sansone was being strip searched at the police station: told to disrobe, lift his testicles and bend over, his wife was home with their 15-month-old daughter."

So they can’t detail what this “scrape with the law” was and how it might have impacted the situation leading to his arrest but they can tell us about him lifting his testicles? This doesn’t strike me as fabulous journalism.

Okay, I agree that this was an egregious violation of this man’s and his family’s civil rights. Overzealous nutcases about kids and the law, and so on.

But I must comment. Naming your daughter Sundae? That’s gonna mess her up.

No. More like the New York Post.

Kind of. Do they still have the page two “Sunshine Girl”?

If his testicles were large enough to have plausibly had a gun hidden behind them, that would be newsworthy.

By most measurable standards it’s a pretty good place to be. Some guy’s anecdote (which I’m sure wasn’t embellished, and was presented in its entirely without withholding any information at all!) about law enforcement mistreating him doesn’t change that.

No it isn’t, his rights have been violated. Even if he did have a gun in the home as long as it’s legal that isn’t a crime either.

We don’t have the ACLU, we just have Ezra Levant instead. All joking aside we have the CCLA which is the American equivilant. But Ezra would probably get more done, he has a bigger mouth.

Reading the linked article, I think that what happened to the dad was inexcusable and absolutely ridiculous, but I get the vibe that this is not a normal family. I think there was more to this story than we’ve heard so far.

I have to agree with this. This story just doesn’t pass the sniff test. If the events happened as stated in the article, yeah, that’s nuts. But I’m betting there’s a whole lot more to this, if it’s not completely misrepresented.

Is there room for me on your bandwagon? Because I’m sure you’re right.

Imagine a version of Fox News one could use to line a birdcage, although personally I think that’d be cruel to the bird.

Sure, hop on!

I think part of my vibe is coming from the fact that they named a daughter “Nevaeh.” That shit ain’t right.

What? This is all in Canada? The vanilla-flavored-everything’s-cool country?

Up in Tennessee we grew up with a loaded shotgun propped up in the corner of the kitchen behind the door. It was for intruders or crows, whichever came first. We were told “Don’t touch the gun. It’s loaded and you’ll blow your damn head off.” And we didn’t, till we were old enough to aim it ourselves.

I’ve never been “gun-ho,” (get it? gung-ho?) but this makes me want to claim I’m from Texas.

It’s certain to draw nuts.

“Vanilla-flavored?” Humph - I’ll have you know we’re maple-flavoured. Honestly.

I’m not sure where this type of gun insanity is coming from - it’s not like we don’t have guns here. We don’t all have guns, mind you, but there are plenty of guns.

According to the report, the child said her daddy used the gun to fight monsters.

So I think the real question here is why the Waterloo Police Department is harassing Jessie Sansone instead of doing something about the monsters which are apparently attacking local families.
