Arrested Development 4-10-05

They should put the dvd out Monday. I’d buy it.

As would I.

It is a little odd that the three siblings (Buster and the twins) seem to be 32-years-old. Oh well, consecutive pregnancies, a wizard did it, etc.

Well keep in mind Oscar, not George Sr., is Buster’s father, and Buster supposedly stayed in the womb for 11 months.

What? Oscar’s his father??? I kid, of course. I was thinking more of Lucille (or, I guess, Lupe).

This sounds like something the Simpsons would do just to mess with the fanboys. Ever consider that he was either speaking in hyperbole or making it up as a jab at the fans? That way you have people trying to figure it out when really it makes no sense.

Just a thought.

This struck me too. In the commentary on the DVD for season 1, they producers talk about their original intent to have the show be filmed in the style of a documentary/reality show. They changed their minds when they decided that it didn’t make much sense for there to be cameras everywhere following this family. They kept the handheld camera because they liked the feeling it gave to the show.

The commentary points out a few instances from **early ** in season one where the characters notice the camera and/or the cameraman moves to avoid something happening in the scene.

The hand covering the camera in this epsiode came out of left field. Plus, Kitty lifts her top, they blur her chest, and then the hand comes up. A few seconds later, Kitty lifts her top again, they blur her chest, but no hand. Strange.

You’re misremembering. It’s absolutely filmed in the style of a reality show; Jason Bateman says it’s “Royal Tennenbaums shot like COPS.” What they don’t do, normaly, is draw attention to the cameramen. (They talk about ditching a joke from the pilot where the camera was going to ‘trip’ climbing some stairs.) It was weird, but it wasn’t the first time. The camera still moves to avoid people’s lips when they’re cursing, and we had that great “footage not found” joke in the season finale, etc.

I get the feeling that the times where the cameraman is used as a joke (like the hand) is the show breaking the fourth wall, not an acknowledgment that the family is being followed by a documentary film crew all the time.

I thought that was the original premise of the show that was abandoned. That there WERE truly filmmakers around them all the time.
