For Slacker’s edification
Speaking of Dick Van Patten, one of the drawbacks of HDTV is getting a clear, closeup view of that guy’s scaly scalp (ewww)!
He’s learning to drive.
Wife of Gob: I’m in love with your brother-in-law.
Gob: You’re in love with your own brother? The one in the army?
Wife of Gob: No. Your sister’s husband.
Gob: Michael? Michael!
Wife of Gob: No. That your sister’s brother.
Gob: No, I’m my sister’s brother. You’re in love with me? Me.
Wife of Gob: I’m in love with Tobias.
Gob: My brother-in-law?
Wife of Gob: I know it can never be, so I’m leaving. I’m enlisting in the army.
Gob: To be with your brother?
Wife of Gob: No!
I think that he’s 14 or 15, because on the first episode of the first season, George Michael and GOB shared something like this exchange:
GOB:…to be 8 again.
GM: But I’m not 8. I’m 13.
GOB: No, I wasn’t crazy about 13. The awkwardness… the erections.
GM: ::Looks down uncomfortably at his pants::
I think it’s possible that Michael had GM when he was 17.
Keep in mind Gob’s comment during the Election Episode something along the lines of “when a girl like that gets knocked up she stays knocked up. Like the one you knocked up”.
And I seem to recall something implying that it happened in high school.
But who knows?
-Joe, don’t know
That is, hands down, my favorite quote from the series.
If Michael got GM’s mom pregnant in high school, then Lindsay got pregnant by Tobias (or a test tube) in high school, since Maeby and GM are the same age and so are Michael and Lindsay (they’re twins).
He’s like a walking billboard for hats. I don’t even have HDTV and I was aghast.
It doesn’t make sense that Lindsay had Maeby as a teen! Highschool students don’t have test tube babies!
You’re conflating two things. Michael said the thing with Ann wouldn’t last, and GOB answer “Unless he knocks her up, like you did with his mother.” And later he says “And [Ann’s] religious. That one gets pregnant, it stays pregnant. Believe me. I dated a chick like that in high school. … No I didn’t.”
I’m trying to remember if George-Michael has actually said he’s 15 or if he could be 14. Anyway, my old theory was that Michael was 34 or 35, and I’m going to stick with it and assume the narrator was approximating. Failing that, he was wrong, as professors sometimes are.
Even at 20, Lindsay being pregnant that way is unusual. And we can guess that she’s not the problem. Maybe she really wanted to piss off George Sr.
Hmm…
Don’t know what to say except, “Damn you and your heathen logic!”.
Or something.
-Joe, forgot they were twins
There is also the possibility that Maebe was adopted. Remember that Tobias dropped the “And then we couldn’t conceive” carrot last season, and I don’t recall them ever resolving that.
Sorry, the age thing must just be a screw-up; we saw “Michael and Lindsay in 1980” flashbacks a couple of times in the first season and they were 12-14, not seven. Michael seems to have married Tracy in or right out of college; in the first season he seemed to be pining after her in HS but then had slept with four women in college before marrying her and none since (in early s1); also this “lifelong love” for Sally Sitwell popped out of nowhere this season. Grrr. They’re usually very meticulous so I don’t know where this ‘Michael and Lindsay are 32’ came from this week. Besides, hate to say this, but Bateman looks his real age.
GM is sixteen now; Maeby is fifteen. I’m pretty sure they were 14 and 13 when the series started, and over a year and a half have gone by in Bluth time.
Personally, I blame Hypertime.
How old are Buster and Gob supposed to be?
GOB, no idea, but probably not much older than the twins. In the flashbacks he looks about 2-3 years older than them, and about 5-6 more than Buster. YMMV.
I think I heard Buster early this season saying he was 32 years old. Which makes the mistake this week more annoying.
I forget which episode, but I think Buster said that he’s 32. My old theory was that GOB is 36, Michael and Lindsay were 34, and Buster 32.
I guess I was a year or two too young with the older 3. Steve Holt is GOB’s son, and he must be about 20 if he’s been held back three times in high school. GOB got Steve’s mother pregnant when they were in high school, so figure he’s maybe 38. Then add a year or two to the twins and I guess things make more sense.
Is ‘Maebe’ really a name? or did they just make that up?
It was revealed in the pilot that here name is Mae “Maebe” Funke, just like Buster is really Byron “Buster” Bluth.
The television critic in the local paper mentioned today that Sunday’s episode is the last of the season and that it’s a really good one. He said it has lots of inside jokes and references back to the first season.
