He was on the island for 5 years. So far we’ve seen about three weeks of it.
I like the show. I’ve never been a very big fan of GA, but they’ve really done a good job so far.
But I do have niggles. StarLING City? What a pointless, dumb sounding change. As is calling Dinah “Laurel”. I will admit, it took me months to note that she works at CNRI… :smack:
Bad casting choices for Tommy and his dad, as they appear to be nearly the same age. They’re each good in their individual roles but put them together and it’s like wha??? Unless Malcolm is really Captain Jack under an alias or something.
And for goodness sake, can we have them start calling him Green Arrow already? All this hemming and hawing over “the hood” and “the vigilante” is giving me bad flashbacks to “the blur” on Smallville. At least there they had the excuse that once Clarkie took up his proper super name the show would be over, here, no excuse. But this show is way better than Smallville, don’t get me wrong.
I’m glad they brought computer girl into the fold, she’s cute. Is she actually from the comics, or just supposed to be some sort of Oracle stand in? Obviously Barbra Gordon would be off limits as part of the bat franchise.
Interesting fakeout with Deathstroke, having there be two of them. Still wondering if Slade’s working a long con on Ollie or what. Good stuff. I think they’ve struck a decent balance between the island and present day scenes.
edit:OH! one more niggle, I hate the little eyemakeup he wears with the hood, sheesh, use a proper mask or glasses like on Smallville or something, the makeup is just silly and hides nothing.
I have to say that Alex Kingston looks a lot different than she does playing River Song.
Brian
I really like the show, though it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. At first I was bothered by the fact that Oliver was just straight up murdering people left and right. It still bothers me, but at least the show has acknowledged it and made it into a somewhat interesting moral dilemma, even if they’re treating like it was akin to cheating on taxes rather than, you know, murdering people.
I’ve only seen the episode with the firefighter, but I’d heard of the show before and could follow the gist pretty well.
I think I’d like watching it, except for the whole “disguise” thing being a hoodie, some strategically placed lighting cues, and … sloppy green costume makeup around the eyes? WTF? How is that a disguise!
Also, I will admit that I got pissy about the rampant abuse of comic-book/tv-show timing. Archer is at the party in civvies, the bad guy is about to do his thing, Archer parkours off to his secret lair, CHANGES CLOTHES, grabs a bow, and is back in the room shooting before the bad buy actually does his thing.
Suuuure.
Other than those bits, I think I’ll enjoy it. I like a good morally-challenged superhero, and it seems like this one gets at least partly nekkid a fair bit, and I don’t mind THAT one bit either!
I’ve been enjoying it … but I find that, a few minutes after every episode, I always end up thinking, “That was just written so badly.” And yet I still go and watch the next episode, and enjoy it … and end up thinking the same thing all over again. Weird.
She’s from comics, but not from Green Arrow. Felicity Smoak was a side character in “Firestorm”. Don’t ask me how she switched.
(That said, a “Firestorm” TV series would be cool. But probably too SFX-heavy expensive to be practical.)
Started watching because I’d heard Barrowman was going to be in the show (are you kidding? I’d watch him sing a phone book!!) Stayed for the eye candy. There’s quite a lot of it for us ladies.
Double DW bonus now that we have River Song in the cast.
I’m enjoying the show.
My one irk point is Thea. Her character just doesn’t make sense. On the one hand, she’s the voice of maturity, lecturing Oliver and their mom about their behavior and how she had to look out for herself. On the other hand, she’s a rich bitch party whore.
But I like Felicity.
Ah, cool. Thanks.
