That had me going “wtf?” Moira is the most hated person in town and in the view of many people a privileged white person has just gotten away with murdering 503 poor people, many of whom have angry relatives outside. Gee, Ollie, maybe you want to tag along as she’s leaving? And gee, Moira, you ride off with a stranger (she’d know her lawyer’s driver?)? Where’s your driver with the family Bentley? I seriously thought this was a set-up to kill off the character, and that actually would have been preferable to what followed. If she’d been killed with an arrow, the city would credit Ollie with the kill (especially in light of his shooting the Count that same night) and Ollie would realize Merlyn was alive sans cheesy reveal. And Merlyn would be justified considering she betrayed him and that betrayal lead to his son’s death.
I was also somewhat ticked at the Count’s death. I’ve no problem with Ollie killing, but the story moved forward by his character not taking/making shots he’s clearly made before. The Count taunting him in the factory? We’ve seen shoot people in the arms and legs without hesitation, and the guy was wide open. Threatening Felicity with the syringe? We’ve seen him shoot someone in the hand holding a gun from further away.
Anyone else think office Felicity looks better than formal attire Felicity?
It isn’t just the glasses (though that is a factor) – I’m not sure what it is.
I’m halfway through the Barry Allen episode - this island connection seems more incredible than previous ones but I’ll roll with it.
With formal we get longer skirtsdresses, which means less legs. The character is great eye-candy, especially for a leg man like me, but that red peek-a-boo dress was, as the kids say, a hella don’t.
Good ep overall, despite a ton of exposition. The writers playing with the Flash origin was good for a laugh (Allen standing in front of a shelf of chemicals during a storm). I can’t believe Diggle and Felicity let the “we, um, I” bit slide without so much as a “Uh-huh. Go on, with the understanding we will be coming back to that.” I don’t want the show to turn into “How I met Your Mother” with Diggle and Felicity on the couch for years hearing about the island, but stop bullshitting your friends, Ollie. The true stuff happening on this island is hard enough to swallow.
I liked Diggle’s “Next you’ll tell us about aliens” line, in light of Man of Steel. Still no mention of “that nut in Gotham City.” How can that be, with rumors of a Nightwing guest-spot in the offing?
This season’s moving along pretty well, with Blood as a villain and Slade as the big bad pulling his strings. The island flashback story is being doled out painfully slowly, though.
Looks like Ollie has a new sidekick–that should make things interesting.
Bronze Tiger’s return was pretty cool–that scene where his new cellmate started pulling the metal claws out of his arm!
So Laurel hits rock bottom and Sara goes to her. Will they let dear old Dad know Sara’s alive?
Dad knows, remember? Sara asked him to keep quiet so the Mom and/or Laurel wouldn’t go looking for her and run into the League of Assassins. I’m sorry but Laurel’s downward spiral is the dumbest plotline I’ve seen in a while. That she became a junkie/alcoholic pretty much overnight, that she was arrested for nothing more than having the pills of a family member in her home, that she’s been fired and will now be disbarred without a single instance of legal or work-related misconduct - it’s just silly. Not as silly as a SWAT team showing up for a break-in at a little-used records library in less than two minutes last week, but silly nonetheless.
I did like the tag at the end with Amanda Waller (the casting choice annoys me - perish forbid the CW show someone overweight!); I always liked Task Force X. There will be some conflict when they recruit Deadshot.
Also, the police officer who arrested her for drug possession later kidnapped her in order to lure The Arrow out. She might not be able to get her old job back, but I think it would be pretty easy to fight the disbarment and claim that she was setup by a clearly deranged cop.
Amazing what costumes, hairstyle and such can do - I still find it surprising that the Huntress and Mina on Dracula are both played by Jessica De Gouw
Brian
Well, Ep 16 has a very clear cameo by Harley Quinn, although you only see her in outline and she’s credited as “Deranged Female.” So I’d say some mention of Gotham is in the offing.
I am really not sure how they will work in the more established characters unless this universe is going to do a complete simul-boot a la the recent Justice League animated. Maybe Supes isn’t out of the closet yet and Batman is still a shadowy vigilante… but that leaves Nightwing kinda hanging in the wind…
I’ve never really understood the name change for Dinah Lance anyway.
That was a nice throwaway, having Harley pipe up.
So Laurel’s got her job back, and while the way it happens was lame, you have to balance that with the fact that how she lost it was stupid as well. How can she think she’s ready to return to work when she was reaching for a bottle at the first sign of stress?
Is there some sort of plan for the Roy Harper character? It’s been pretty lame so far - I’d rather see Sarah’s sidekick than this guy.
I’ve actually stopped watching. If they are bringing in other DC characters, I might have to start up again. I was hoping that we’d see the Flash, but I understand that’s going to be a spin-off series which I presumably will watch until it turns out lame too.
The Flash was my favorite DC character (I started running track at age 11, so lots of appeal), and I was really psyched about the in-show pilot. Unfortunately, too many people were excited - they decided to bypass testing the character out on Arrow and launch the show cold.
Arrow is still interesting (the action sequences, the island sequences, the Team Arrow dynamics), though I personally don’t care for the recurring theme among superhero shows and movies that if one is good, throwing in a bunch more will make it great! I’d call it The Smallville Gambit but it started before then…
I love the action scenes with Arrow and Black Canary fighting as a team. However, yeah, with Roy and Diggle in the mix, and Felicity coordinating things, the lair is starting to seem a little crowded. I won’t be surprised if Sara ends up going off on her own again before long.
Mental illness and alcoholism in TV shows is always caused by the slightest stress and only lasts long enough to Teach Someone A Lesson (About Something)… and then is miraculously cured in a matter of hours. They really turned this one into a full-length ad for the Miracle of AA, too.
Well, I assume you know all the pieces that go into this iteration - he’s not quite the old Speedy, not quite Red Arrow, not quite a few other things… I suspect he’ll become a superhero in his own right and go off to some other city. (Is there any second- or third-tier DC hero he could become?)
I wouldn’t be surprised if we never hear of Supes or Metropolis, as it just wouldn’t fit this universe, but you can feeeeeelllll Gotham City waiting for its turn.
The thing is, his story is going nowhere. He’s getting no training, no costume, no codename. Basically, every other ep we’re constantly he’s a homicidal maniac because occasionally he scowls at people who hit, stab, or shoot him. And now, despite telling us twice that his relationship with Thea is the only thing keeping him from killing, Ollie tells him to break things off with Thea.
They’ve done a bad job of showing the mental effects of Mirakuru anyway. Slade hasn’t shown as more deadly or unstable than any other villain on the show, past or present. And there’s always the fact that no bad guy has a higher body count than The Arrow himself.
I am willing to give the show time to develop the extended cast. I’m rather relieved that everyone wasn’t in a mask by ep 3. In general, I am so entertained with the way they are remapping the characters and setting that I’m willing to overlook some overall pacing and construction flaws.
