I don’t dislike Mr. Wenger, and I actually have a soft spot for him, since he’s the last remaining long-serving general manager in upper-level English Footie. But today’s completed humiliation by Bayern shows that, however sad it would be to see him gone, he’s simply not doing it for The Arsenal. I’m thinking that there will be a year-end announcement on this one.
(For those who didn’t see: the two-legged Champions’ League tie ended up 10 - 2 in Bayern’s favor):eek:
That second half was a complete shambles. Yes, they were playing with 10 men for most of it, but that’s no excuse to fold like that. RB Leipzig was down a man from the 30th minute against Bayern before the winter break and only gave up 1. At least put forth some effort on behalf of the fans who paid through the nose to sit and watch that catastrophe.
I don’t see how a manager can lose 10-2 on aggregate and keep his job. I think it’s the worst aggregate defeat in the UCL for an English team, ever.
I think they should replace him with Ranieri. See if he can repeat that magic. I’m slightly kidding, but it doesn’t sound that bad. Of course, no one on Arsenal can replicate what N’golo Kante did for LCFC.
Interesting dilemma for the board - take the money with certain top four every year, but that is it, or grasp the nettle and get the greatest manager in Arsenal history to stand down. This is odds on tank the team for at least a couple of seasons, maybe more, but they can be reborn as a title contenders.
Personally I’d like to see him stay - I think he’s a miserable minge-bag and a poor ambassador for the game, but the fume from Arsenal Fans TV if he stays will be epic to witness. Off the Richter scale.
Have to say, he’s obviously a great manager, but more than that he must be one of the greatest and most timely managerial appointments in football history. Massive dice roll by the Arsenal board to take him from the Japanese league, and he established Arsenal as an elite entity at the most critical time in the evolution of the premier league.
