Arsonists- May They Rot In Hell

As you would be aware from the posts on the boards here, the southern states of Australia- Victoria in particular, have deen hit extremely hard by bushfires. There are 36 confirmed dead so far- a toll that will certainly rise.

Towns like Marysvillie and Kingslake virtually no longer exist. People have lost not only their lives, but all their possessions and homes.

Yet there are still arseholes going around lighting fires and relighting those that have been bought under control. May those bastards rot in hell forever.

Story.

Wouldn’t “Arsonists- May They Burn in Hell” be a better thread title?

Point taken.

If these jerks are caught, what is done with them, what kind of charges?

Hell is too good for them. I hope if caught they are forced to actually go to a burns unit and see the result of their handiwork. A friend’s daughter suffered horrible burns to her hands and legs after stumbling into hot coals of a campfire that wasn’t completely out. As a result I have visited a burns unit - and they are horrible places. Then I want them publicly flogged until the skin flays from their bodies. Fuckers. Words can’t express my horror, comtempt and outright hatred for these poor excuses for humans.

From the Crimes Act (Vic) 1958, s197A:

I think there is a 15 year penalty. I don’t know if that has ever been imposed.
Sorry- Cunctator beat me.

Or not, they might like it :(.

I can understand the basic fascination with fire that an arsonist presumably has, fire is pretty cool stuff, but beyond that they’re just monsters.

This is why I believe in capital punishment.

65 dead now. Unbelievable.

Looks like they may face murder charges

There’s just no punishment suitable for these pieces of shit. Even worse (as if we needed it), it so often turns out that they’re fire fighters (volunteer or otherwise).

To put it in perspective, they have (collectively if it was more than one, which it seems there were/are) so far murdered twice as many as Martin Bryant at Port Arthur, along with making perhaps thousands homeless, and they’re still free.

I hope they get everything coming to them.

Kids in Australia are brought up understanding the danger of fire: starting a bushfire when you KNOW what is likely to happen is beyond evil.

Marysville was an adorable little town. It’s so sad to know it’s completely gone :frowning:

On Friday when the News was all about warning that Saturday would be the worst day yet, I was quite skeptical that they could be so certain. But wow, it has surpassed even their predictions!

It’s so tragic.

Balmain boys don’t cry. Nor do Brisbane boys. This brings me close.

Absolutely. There is no excuse.

There are reports of bodies burned beyond recognition. Of cars that have been hastily abandoned, with the doors still open and completely burned through.

I didn’t know that people had been going around re-lighting the fires that were already under control. That takes a special kind of evil.

I cried like a baby.

Channel 9 veteran Brian Naylor confirmed dead in Kinglake fires
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,25025527-5006785,00.html

The fires are about 10km from my mothers home in Alexandra, but she’s safe in Melbourne with other relatives. There are two large fire breaks that have been cut around Alexandra as that’s where the hospital is, so hopefully the break will contain the fire before it can wreak its devastation there as well.

I do hope they catch the loony who lit the fires and I trust in our justice system to take care of it. I don’t wish death upon anyone, just natural justice.

Holy shit!! Marysville gone? I used to go there often as a young man. It was one of the most perfect villages on the face of the earth. People who have never been there won’t understand. :frowning:

Fuck that is just hideous. The lucky country has had some big hits in the last couple of years.

Let’s just hope an arsonist becomes his only victim.

Brian told me so.
