I am a big lover of art deco…and I am about to redecorate the living room! (Mrs. ralph124c has given carte blanch on this!). We have a traditional house, witha brick fireplace(ca 1925). I want to give the room an Art Deco look-what should I do with the fireplace? I’ve considered refacinf the hearth with tiles, or painting the vrick–anybody know a good way to give it an art deco look?
You’ve come to the right person. How handy are you? If you are pretty handy with the hammer and the wood, I’d suggest a renaissance-esque-Art-Deco frame made from a hard wood, wither Teak or blood wood. Framed with tin on the rear and insulation so-as to protect from the heat. The shape can be any shape you wish. Frame it up over the hearth and whamo, art-deco to the max.
Or Instead of tile, which is rather bland, unless they are mosaics or something, try going kind of 50’s style, teal colors and terra-cotta… bubbles of spliced blue sphere’s encircling the hearth…really out there type stuff. I’ll be back to check on this thread later
I highly suggest typing ‘art deco fireplace’ into google search.
Good visuals like these will trigger some ideas:

(also, don’t forget art deco accessories for the fireplace!!)
At ebay.com search for ‘glass fireplace screen’ or something similar, you can find stained glass screens, maybe some art deco types. I did anyway
