Art glass dip pens

I’ve started to lust after one of these, but the local stores don’t carry them. Before I mail order one, I’d like to know how the sensation of writing with one is. Is it comparable to a regular fountain pen? A steel tipped dip pen? Is it scratchy or smooth?

Also, will it really hold enough ink to write a sizeable amount – like, several paragraphs – between dips?

Hi-

I bought one of these here in Prague as a gift. I tried writing my signature and was surprised by how like a normal fountain pen it was like. But I only did my name, so I wouldn’t know how long it would last. But it was smooth writing while it lasted.

Thanks, Tomcat!

They are just so gorgeous I want one displayed atop my desk.

At the same time, I have fantasies that would inspire me to be more prompt about writing cards & notes – but not, of course, if the things were a PITA to write with.

Off to peruse catalogs…

I have one as well. I picked it up in Venice a few years ago. They write fairly smoothly, although mine would only last for a few words before I had to re-dip it. Be sure to read about how to sharpen the tip someplace. I’m still not sure how to do that myself, but since I don’t write with it that often, it’s not a big deal. Enjoy.

Anyone have a link?

Very pretty! Hard to believe they write smoothly, but I guess it’s true!

I’ve heard people raving about how cool they are, but the only one I’ve tried was scratchy and not particularly pleasant to write with–but it was a cheap one in a gift set, so you probably get what you pay for. (Imagine that. )
