Article about City of Heroes - Griefing, or PvP as it was meant to be?

I had the inverse experience very early in my MMO career. Was playing my little Thane, lowest level possible to be allowed into the contested lands, and killing mobs just outside the gates. It was noon in France, I played on a US server, and the place was just dead, so I figured I was pretty safe.

Then this Druid, maybe 10 or 15 levels above me just springs out of nowhere and roots me. Then bows to me. Then just stands there, waving at me, just out of reach of my sword. I cracked every lightning bolt I had at her till my mana was depleted. I must have taken maybe ten percent off her health. Which she healed immediately, still waving and laughing. The little snot waited patiently until the root finally broke to kill me before I could run to the guards, who were like ten meters away.

To this day, I have never been more infuriated by any PvP death. If you’re gonna kill me, KILL ME DAMMIT ! What are you, some kind of cat ?! :stuck_out_tongue:

In that case, I would have just stopped doing everything and waited for him to kill me. Say something like, “Are you going to be all day, I have things to do.” The continuous ineffectual fighting is what he was enjoying. Just stopping everything and being bored they don’t like. I got jumped by 3 people in Warburg once and I just stopped, turned off my toggles, and told them to hurry up. The said that was no fun, I was supposed to fight back. I pointed out there were 3 of them and it would just be a waste of time. They said I was no fun and just took off.

Nice.

This weekend, we had Fang’s sixth birthday party. We ahd set up some water buckets and got some cheap squirt guns for the kids. It didn’t take long for some of them to realize that they could score all sorts of hits by shooting the kids who were filling up. I had to call out a “No Ganking” rule.

This professor reminds me of those kids.

Same here. I have to say, for someone who was supposedly so reviled, I never heard of him and I even wandered through the PvP section of the forum on occasion back then.

Man, if even 6 year old camp the spawn… :stuck_out_tongue:

At least now CoHs has the dual build feature - so you can have a PvP and a PvE build. Not liking PvP I tend to ignore it or choose a team/solo set.
