I need to write an essay on how Julie Otsuka’s When the Emperor was Divine, a book that deals with the Japanese-American internment camps during WWII, is relevant today. Or in other words, as stated on my instructor’s website:
“Using specific examples from the book, show how the treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII parallels a similar treatment of individuals now, either in this country or in another”
Anyways, I’m having difficulty finding examples that I could use to support this idea. I did find an article on racial segregation in California prisons, but I don’t think it’s strong enough to use:

A recent story on the news (though I can’t seem to find the article for use in my paper) detailed a person of middle-eastern decent taking pictures of a local fish ladder. He was not the only one taking picture, but yet because of his ethnicity, he was spoken to by the police about his actions. That would be an ideal article for my paper.
So, does anyone have any articles of relevance that might point me in the right direction? Thanks so much.
