"Artists" corporations thought would be the Next Big Thing so they were pushed relentlessly?

FGTH had their time in the sun outside of America. They had hits spanning almost a decade, which is better than some can say. And most of them still stand up today.

The thing about the Lena Dunham hype is that it began before the show even debuted. I remember multiple articles in Slate and Salon hyping the show and Dunham before the show hit cable, and then once the show did hit, there were almost daily articles about it for a while. Slate and Salon were particularly obsessive.

This strikes me as the product of either 1) a really good publicist; or 2) personal contacts. Maybe all that over-the-top enthusiasm was organic, but I suspect not. Dunham has always been good at getting publicity for herself through her contacts in the media, all the way back to her high school days. See, Lena Dunham’s weirdly-publicized high school vegan party.

This all just smells funny.
