I love David Bowie - he’s gorgeous and sexy and I love his voice, but… I can’t get into his music. I like some of his popular songs and everything out of Labyrinth, but in general it’s just meh or even annoyance.
Anyone else have an artist you like, but you don’t like most of their stuff?
Leonard Cohen is really sexy and intellectual, and I do love “Hallelujah” but most of his other songs, while they seem poetic and well-written, just don’t resonate with me. Suzanne, Stranger Song, Winter Lady…they leave me cold.
I don’t hate Celine Dion’s music, but I’m not a big fan of her as a singer. However, when I see an interview of her on TV, I become a fan of her as a person.
Bruce Springsteen seems like a really grounded, passionate, hard working everyman that truly loves what he does and completely believes in his message. But I just can’t get into either his voice or music. I’ve tried, even saw him twice. It would no doubt be enjoyable to drink a beer with him and shoot the bull but musically I’m afraid he just doesn’t do a darn thing for me.
I feel the same way about Marilyn Manson. Kind of meh, don’t hate it, don’t like it, wouldn’t really buy an album of his. But I thought he came across as intelligent and articulate in “Bowling for Columbine” when Moore interviewed him about what he thought about people saying his music inspired Columbine and other acts of violence.
Prince. I don’t really dislike his songs but instead feel rather “meh” toward most of them. That being said, I do admire the fact that for years he’s been doing his own thing artistically and has still managed to be quite successful.
Kate Bush. Pretty much what I said about Prince also applies here. That and the fact she was for a time one of few celebrities I would’ve considered to be “potential wife material” if the opportunity ever arose.
