As a registered Republican I am so frustrated!

I feel like I am in an episode of The Twilight Zone and Donald Trump, Bill Barr, and Mitch McConnell just wrote a book called: TO SERVE THE MEN AND WOMEN OF AMERICA. It is a best seller amongst my fellow Republicans but don’t bother to buy a copy, they will send you one for free. Trouble is it is in a language no one can understand – only the title has been properly translated.

So the entire Republican Party heads to the polls as I keep shouting to them: “IT’S A COOKBOOK!” But they don’t listen; they go glassy eyed to vote for those whom are so eager to serve them. Really, how can anyone not know how bad a guy Trump is? How could anyone support him even if his alleged platform matches your own? For that matter, how can they not see he does not have a platform, just some patter aimed at stealing your vote?

I think if Rod Serling was still alive in 2020 he’d burn his typewriter.

So, OP, If I may, How are you planning on voting?

They have guns, God and conservative justices. The American trifecta. And the liberulls a mightily ticked off.
They need naught else.

Eager to vote for Biden, but very eager to vote against Trump. Will follow that up with a vote for Mark Kelly. I am still reading up on the down ticket races. I even contacted my few Democratic friends and offered to drive those needing a ride to the polls. The most I have ever been invested in the political process.

Was there something about how I phrased my post that made you question, or was the question just ironic?

I commend you. Yes, I got from your post that you were frustrated with Republicans, but maybe not so frustrated to take action with your own vote. My bad.

Well, he could write for the West Wing, it is right up his alley - absurd and fiction. Or he could write about the West Wing for the same reason: “As a fellow producer of head trippy fiction, I believe today’s briefing was . . . .”

I’m the same way.

Been a registered Republican since '80, but am going to change my enrollment to Democratic party after the election.

While I will be voting Republican so far as my congressman and a local judge, I am definitely going to vote for Biden and Harris.

Why are you still a Republican?

Thank you. It has been a long trip however, many years ago I was just as bad as they are; I defended Rumsfeld after Abu Ghraib. But as soon as I looked at my own positions objectively I started a slow march to the left.

What amazes me is how few in my tiny little sphere of influence are willing to see the quite obvious truth. They truly believe Biden is a hard core Socialist who is going to fold under pressure to a freshman congresswoman from NY and drive the United States directly into Communism. (By-the-way, they are mostly evangelical Christians and when I tell them Jesus of Nazareth was in favor of communal living and his early church was a commune it makes their heads spin !!) They want so badly to believe Trump is a “good Christian man” despite his actions. They are so very blind to the very obvious and I am helpless to move even one of them away from FOX News views of the world. Very frustrated and very sad.

If me, I simply just never changed parties. I never voted straight ticket or anything. I just voted for the person I liked and wanted.

I would say there wasn’t but I’ve heard of enough folks who will know how bad Trump is but either won’t vote at all or will vote third party because Biden’s only the 70% solution and not the 100% solution.

Thus I fear we’ll see a second Trump term.

I am trying to change us back into something worthwhile from the inside. Perhaps viewing too many Aaron Sorkin shows has made me Quixotic despite myself.

I truly hope real Republicans will take back their party and make the religious right go sit in the corner until the grown-ups are done talking. I would like the leaders of the Republican Party to more closely resemble Will McAvoy from NEWSROOM (and therefore – me). I still hope they can get back to reason and acceptance of a plural society. Or that this election cycle destroys them and Evangelicals become only passively political (voting, but keeping their moralizing inside church circles) with the current Democratic Party splitting into a progressive wing and a libertarian wing which oppose each other softly and respectfully.

I want to see the Republican Party return to being fiscally responsible (including occasionally raising taxes), moral, and reluctant supporters of the military (if we have to have one – let’s have the best one that is not fifty times bigger than it needs to be). It would be nice if they could embrace education too, especially science and technology leading to a successful economy. Either that, or go the way of the Bull Moose Party. Mostly I want the Republican Party to believe in their moral choices enough to not feel compelled to force the entire world to march in lockstep with them in every particular. I want them to make their own choices concerning abortion and gay marriage then leave everyone else to make their own choices in those matters. (I cannot even tell you the number of times I have had to ask if some Democrat was forcing a relative to have an abortion or marry a same sex partner because they way they discuss it, it is not unreasonable to believe that is a real possibility.)

I do work occasionally with a local Democratic group. They are mostly devout Dems who work for social justice and other reasonable goals. They are not full of hate and fear, and much better informed overall. I started bringing the kid to their meetings and do jump in occasionally when I feel they are on the right side of things. Of course they have their own overly committed crazed individuals too. They claim I am a Democrat already, but I am still a bit reactionary and suspicious to be as fully accepting as they are.

You can be an independent. There is no good purpose for membership in these parties.

I may have to myself. I keep hoping they (at least the ones I deal with personally) will be more reasonable in the future. They HATE me for disagreeing with them in any particular and when I ask them to support their views – to convince me they are right, they tell me to move to China where “commies” are welcome.

I am trying to influence my fellow Republicans to be more reasonable and less shrill, but so far not much progress. I may switch if this persists, or may go Independent.

As far as change within is concerned, how are the Log Cabin Republicans doing lately?

Don’t get hung up on labels. In an election with the choice of “lesser of two evils”, Lesser is the way to go. I don’t call myself a Democrat, even though I’ve voted that way my adult life. If a Green Party, or a Party Party was the most likely candidate to beat the Republican, that’s how I’d go. Currently, Democrats of the Democratic Party have the best chance.

Not if this guy can do anything to stop that!! Well, I am voting for Biden/Harris anyway.

And please, don’t type a sentence like that which is guaranteed to make this atheist pray!
Oh, God NO!!!

Those giants are no match for my lance and my charger! Ready my armor Poncho!!

(See, I used the Bull Moose Party.)
Hey that reminds me, what is the difference between Donald Trump and the Hindenburg?

One is huge bag of explosive gas and the other is a dirigible! [rimshot!]

Depending on the state, it may be the only way to have a voice in anybody’s primaries.
