Who said they couldn’t? At least wild turkeys can.
I have seen wild turkeys fly from the ground to a tree limb perhaps 15 feet in the air. It’s not graceful – in fact, it’s pretty funny – but they can do it. Domestic turkeys, on the other hand, are filled with cement. Don’t drop them out of helicopters, ever.
We’ve got wild turkeys on our property and they always roost in this huge stand alone white oak in the middle of our meadow. Now that there are no leaves on it we can see them fly up to the roost every evening if we are home when they do it
daHubby and I were toodling down the interstate one afternoon and a turkey made a bombing run across the car. If we’d not been the only car on that stretch of highway at that time, we’d have wrecked the car.
Some time ago a wild turkey was found on the balcony of a Manhattan apartment.
It was over 20 stories up. The strong updrafts helped bring the bird up there.
Evidently you don’t recognize the famous quote from WKRP in Cincinnatti (which, in turn, may have been inspired by a real event: Turkey Facts, Biology, and Statistics )
But of course. :smack:
I have a flock of about 40 turkeys that roost in the pine trees above my bedroom window. Yep, they fly. They make a heckuva racket when they do, too!
Enough Wild Turkey and I think that I can fly.
