"As seen on the Straight Dope Message Board" Youtube channel

I didn’t find an existing thread on this, so my apologies if this is well-known, but I was surprised to find this:

http://www.youtube.com/social/blog/boards-straightdope-sdmb

I was looking at an Arc Attack video (Tesla Coils - Arc Attack - Doctor Who Theme Song - Makers Faire 2010 - San Mateo - No. 1 - YouTube) and noticed a small link reading:

“As Seen On:
Straight Dope Message…”

Are we doing this on purpose, or is Google just smart enough to figure it out on their own? I don’t object, but I am professionally curious…

I suspect it is another example of Google maximizing data that is available to them. They already index SDMB at a near-instant rate. It isn’t a stretch to imagine they can scan for videos referenced and collect them in one web page.

Personally, I think it is a win-win situation.

Yeah, it’s interesting. Using Google image search, I often find images which, when moused over, reference the SDMB as the site they are on. Because someone referenced the image in a post, the image becomes forever associated with SDMB in Google results. This could be good or bad I suppose.

I wonder if we should make our own channel, where members can upload videos. Not a bad idea.

Hmmmm…

The Doper Channel?

You really want to go there?
