There are some commercials I keep seeing that I’d love to know from people who’ve bought the products if they actually work. I’ve looked on e-pinions and done a google but haven’t found any reviews.
Turbo-Cooker- it’s claim is that it can cook frozen pork chops in 10 minutes or a full roast in 30 minutes. It looks like a wok-skillet, has a timer, and is also a multiracked steamer. It’s $60, which is a great deal if it works but of course a total waste if the commercial is one of those “your mileage may vary” things.
Pasta-Pro (there are actually several almost identical ads for essentially the same product)- it’s a pasta pot with a lockable draining lid. My main concern is how durable is it? It’s only $19.95 ($14.95 for one of the brands), but that’s overpriced if its aluminum thin metal that’s going to be scratched to the core after three uses.
Ding-King- uses suction to remove dents from cars. Has anybody used this? Does it work?
Don’t know about the others but Maxim did a little thing about late-night TV commercials and tried out various products. One of them was a Ding-King type thing. Basically, they said the adhesive leaves a hideous residue and it doesn’t work nearly as well as it does in the commercials. Basically a rip.
KRBC in Texas does a segment called “Does it Work” and posts the results on their website . It is usually updated weekly and I have found it a great source of information on some of these “As Seen on TV” products…including the Turbocooker
My wife uses a Turbocooker all the time. She steams frozen meat in the bottom and steams frozen stir-fry veggies in the rack. It takes about twenty-five or thirty minutes. She often uses teriaki sauce on the meat. This gives a hint of flavor to the veggies. The only thing she ever had go wrong, was some lemon peper fish gave a strong lemon flavor to some brocoli, which I found nasty. It’s a great frying pan, also.
