Ashcroft is Coming, Part Duex

For those of you who remember, Former Attorney General Richard Ashcroft is speaking at my school on Thursday. What has changed since the last time we talked about this is that there will be a Q&A section of the program, and this being a small school, I know the guy in charge of picking people to ask questions. I jumped on that opportunity, believe me. So, fellow dopers, I must ask, is there any burning question you simply must have answered by Ashcroft? I’ve got a few in my head involving the Patriot Act mostly, but I figure you are all more intelligent than I am, and can probably come up with more thoughtful, helpful questions than I.

Yes, I know this isn’t really a pit per se, but it’s where the last thread was, so I figured that’s where it’s sequel should go as well.

You may want to start by getting his name right :stuck_out_tongue:

You might ask him if he thinks it’s reasonable for U.S Attorneys to be sacked for investigating too many Republicans, or for failing to investigate enough Democrats. Seems to be kinda topical right now.

The OPer must think he’s a Dick…

“Is it true you would turn to dust if exposed to sunlight?”

Ask him to sing that eagle song he wrote.

Ask if you can see your file.

I wouldn’t. He might.

Let the Eagle Soar

Do bare female statues really excite him inappropriately? (And is he turned on by nipples or the cold aluminum?)

(He is not going to let anyone see their files; Gonzales has charge of them, now.)

Ask him what it was like to lose an election to a dead guy.

Ask him if granting extended powers to law enforcement agencies is a wise decision, seeing as how the government routinely seems to try to overstep its powers (e.g. FBI trying to circumvent the requirements of the National Security Letter provision.)

Ask him if he agrees with Detroit District Court judge Taylor’s ruling that the warrantless wiretapping (autorized by the Bush administration) is illegal under FISA as well as unconstitutional under the First and Fourth Amendments of the United States Constitution. If the wiretapping was legally justified, is it right for the president to refuse to reauthorize it?

Ask him 'If I disagree with you publically, will you have me arrested by the secret service?

I thought he wrote Bittersweet Symphony.

Nah, start by spelling “deux” correctly, then get his name right.

Okay, I deserve all the ribbing on saying Richard instead of John (though VunderBob isn’t far off). I don’t know what I was thinking. Give me a little break on “deux,” that’s just an honest typo.

If the guy can’t duck any question you ask, he’s not much of a politician.

Actually, the thread title inspired me to the following:

Ask him if he might be interested in being USAG again. Since the job apparently is about to open up.

Ask him:

Where signing statements are supported in the Constitution.
Does he think Congress can retract its authorization to go to Iraq.
If he thinks The Rapture is imminent what does it matter what we do in the short term.
If God doesn’t like female breasts why are we born naked?
Would he vote for an Atheist?
