Don’t you get it, man? It’s the kimchi, man, the kimchi! That shit rots your brain. Too much turns you fuckin’ psycho. How else do you explain Kim Jong Il? Or dog stew? Or fuckin’ Hyundais?! Explain the Hyundais to me!!!
My guess? Face.
I don’t know about that; it’s a gesture, like all the things we do regarding mourning. Saying how sorry you are to people doesn’t do much, but we still do it (and it’s still expected). I don’t think it says that he feel responsible, but that he shares the grief.

I still think fasting for 32 days is an over-reaction. And it’s such an overtly Korean response to the whole thing as well. It’s what Korean politicians do when they get caught doing something bad and they want to “save face.” (I admit this may have different connotations for me, as a Korean American, than it might for Americans in general.)
Ah, I see. I agree that there is no “face” for Korean Americans to save; crazy doesn’t respect racial boundaries. I like to think that only the stupidest of the mis-informed would somehow misinterpret this shooting as “All Koreans like to kill people.”
Extremely well put. I gotta admit, my first reaction to the the thread title was something like:
Asian New Fad Fear Follows Hello Kitty Killings
I have a hard time feeling sorry for the Koreans here, though. If they’re cornered by hate criminals, they always have that little trick to fall back on . . .
SPANKY HAMM: Oh . . . I forgot Asianses could do that!
Everytime you drive a Hyundai, God kills a Hello Kitty, doncha know.
Better than a KIA…
As word keeps coming out about the shooter’s psychological problems and how he was declared a danger to himself, I’m wondering about the long-term effects this will have on the public’s view of people with mental issues.
My Hyundai gets 30 mpg. Plus it has never broken down, with the exception of a sensor going bad after I drove my car through a creek about 3 feet deep. I love that POS.
I was thinking this morning how sad it is that people are going to latch on to the “Korean” thing. Why can’t we recognize that a person did this, an individual. Who cares if he was white, black or purple, or gay or straight, or male or female, or a virgin or not? The fact is this person killed many other people in cold blood without any apparent motive. His race has absolutely nothing to do with it and anyone who thinks that is true is a certified moron. The Korean Ambassador is an honorary moron for perpetuating the myth that this has anything at all to do with race.
(dropping in without reading thread)
Since this act of terror was brought to us by a South Korean national, will we keep with our strategy, and attack Norway?
Hey, Canada’s got dibs on Norway! They’re making eyes at our Arctic Islands. Or maybe that was Denmark - I’ll be right back. Yeah, it’s Denmark that we have to go to war with. You guys can have Norway.
One good thing from all this shit… Margaret Cho has a new act.
I doubt anyone stupid enough to take action against Koreans isn’t bright enough to distinguish between Japanese, Chinese, or Korean, so I’m sure at some point we’ll get a Chinese person attacked with the perp shouting about Korea and whatnot.
Thinking back to my college years, I was way ahead of the curve on this inititive. I am a true visionary, worthy of millions of grant dollars to continue my program. Proof: None of the Asian students I gave a sterling example of debauchery too has gone on a murderous rampage.
I met my with asian student group and that’s a common feeling right now. So it’s not just among Koreans.
Initial reports identified the shooter as Chinese so I was glad that was corrected before I started torturing the Chinese guy I had tied up in my basement. I had to let him go but finding a Korean to replace him shouldn’t be too hard.
