You thought Lex Luthor would be perfect, but now think Lex Luthor would be perfect?
Considering the hot mess that was made of I, Robot, I would rather that the series were left alone.
Has HBO ever done a good science fiction adaptation? I can’t remember. They can make good series.
Strangely enough not really. There was Perversions of Science, a short lived Sci Fi anthology (I would call it The Outer Limits with boobs but The Outer Limits on Showtime had boobs). It wasn’t very good.
The only other show you could make a case was sci fi is Fraggle Rock of all things. And that’s a huge stretch.
O. Dam.
If they build this, I will come (fap fap fap). Star Wars, as an 11-year-old in 1977, got me interested in SF, but Asimov and Foundation were what really turned me into a fan. And Asimov essentially instilled in me what I look for in my fiction: tell the damned story, and only go into detail about the “tech” if it’s essential to the story.
I do think it would be cool if they put in a scene that showed how Asimov predicted the spell-checker/autocorrect. Nothing blatant, just a little casual aside.
Everything Asimov wrote is worth reading. And in any case, how could you not read the third book of a trilogy when you’ve read the first two? The story ain’t finished!
I will actually buy a television and sign up for cable if this happens.
I honestly wouldn’t mind if they started with the prequels.
I’ll lay odds on Patrick Stewart as Hari Seldon. And young Arkady? How about Camren Bicondova? She’s playing a young Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, in the Gotham series. From what I’ve seen so far of her performance, I think she could play a young Arkady very well. And I always kind of pictured Arkady as being of Russian descent.
In Foundation, except for the incident during the neighboring planet’s boy king’s coronation, nothing much happens. The events that do happen occur off screen, so to speak.
Wait… there was an incident where the Korellian (?) secret police had one of their agents disguised as a Foundation Priest asking for sanctuary on a Foundation Trader’s ship. Was that in Foundation or Foundation and Empire.
I guess there’s enough action/adventure in F&E and Second Foundation to be interesting to watch, but I think unless they bastardize Foundation, either not many people unfamiliar with the trilogy will want to stick around to see F&E and SF. On the other hand, if they screw with the book enough to catch new people’s attention with Foundation, no Asimov fans will stick around to watch the rest of it. I don’t see any sort of win-win here.
As for Will Smith’s “I, Robot”, I understand the movie was already in pre-production when they decided to rename it and insert as much Asimov’s mumbo jumbo into it so they could call it “Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot”.
I thought Robin Williams’ “The Bicentennial Man” was a faithful rendition of the Asimov story.
If they get Patrick Stewart as Hari Seldon then I will watch it however bad it is.
I don’t know. I think that would be a little too close to his role in X-Men for me.
Ah, something that might make that interminable series of books interesting!
I vote Ben Kingsly.
No need. Watch it in a tablet or computer. By the time it airs you will be able to get an internet-only subscription to HBO - it has been announced for next year.
I think you could move some of the off-screen action on-screen without crapping things up too much.
A war ending because one side ran out of atomic refrigerators?
