Dumping occurs when a large amount of sugar reaches the lower end of the small intestine, which is not meant to absorb sugar. The upper part, which normally does the job, is bypassed during the surgery (hence, gastric bypass). FWIW, all the parts you had before are still there afterwards, just not in the same order Og installed them.
I won’t get all the symptoms listed, but the biggies are nausea, diarrhea, and lightheadness. You basically feel like sh*t, and it’s considered to be a beneficial side effect 'cuz once it happens, you’re not hip to eating sugar and having it happen twice.
My wife has many psychological problems, mostly linked to an abusive alcoholoic father. One is that she’s a surgery junkie, and another is that she is a compulsive eater. She uses her weight and bad health as reasons to not venture out in public, to the point that she’s a borderline agoraphobic.
I’ve tried dieting n times, and she’s 3n in sabotage attempts.
My fear is/was that if I did this, she’d have a fit because she didn’t have the surgery herself, and also she’s step up the sabotage. Not much I can do about the sabotage except anticipate it and be ready. Already she says I should wait until something else happens first (we move, I know what’s happening with a job transfer, etc.)
I told her NO. I’m not going to wait, and I’m tired of all the other games she plays. I’m doing this. You can support me, you can get one yourself, or I’ll go it alone.
Oddly enough, she says she’ll get one, too. I told her that I’m going first, because my health is a lot better than hers, and I’ll know more of what t expect when she has complications (she always does)
I’ll consider that to be her grudging support. The rest of the family (my sister, aunts and uncles, my inlaws) are behind me 110%
If anyone is still following along, I have a cardiac screening on April 15th, and my pshrink eval on April 27th. That means I passed the first cut paper screening…
I usually just read this board but seeing your post made me finally join so I could post in your thread. I had my bypass 3 years ago in December. I did my research for almost 2 years at obesityhelp.com before I decided to do it. I’ve lost 290+ lbs. Since having the GB, I’ve also had a breast reduction and then I had a kid.
For any of you that are considering having this surgery…I highly recommend it. I’m always so happy for people who finally decide to help themselves, and I love seeing newly normal-sized people realize what they’ve been missing.
My own best experience was the first time I bought clothes at Walmart!
In answer to a previous question: I still get hungry. I still find times (mostly during PMS) where I’d love to eat a pint of ice cream or a whole cheesesteak sub and fries. Instead I just buy half the cheesesteak, eat the filling with a fork, and move on with life.
