I’ve decided that I’m going to move in with my best friend for now. She owns a little house in Columbus. I have a realtor friend who’s got lots of suggestions for me, but I have to be back in the work force solidly before I can even hope to think about that.
Busy getting in touch with all of my contacts and letting them know I’m looking for work. Hoping something turns up before too long. My plan is to move by mid-summer.
Have had several good talks with manthous, who only wants me to be happy and is being fully supportive of my decision. I’ve been crying pretty much every day at the thought of him being alone, but I think that’s my problem- I’ve spent more of my life worrying about others’ happiness than my own.
Right now I’m just letting the gravity of all of this settle in. It’s pretty huge.
xanthous, what kind of work are you looking for? My husband’s company is still hiring, I believe–if you’re in anything techie, especially telecommunications, I can hook you up.
Hey now, some of us aren’t to crazy about being here either, but if life gives you dayton, you just have to make daytonade, or drink copiously, or something… (ah, i’ll be at sloopy’s if you need me…)
If by “techie” you mean technical graphic design, yes, I’m techie, but not the telecom-type of techie! I am, however, highly organized, a good communicator, good detail manager, good project manager, great people-person, & have always worked at least 4 yrs with every employer I’ve had (i.e. dedicated), so if that can get me a decent paying full-time job, then I’ll consider it!
I just planted a full garden, including serranos, cilantro from seed, and 3 varieties of tomatoes, so imagine my distress at having to leave it all. I grew the best tomatoes of my life in Ohio, so that I have no fear of. Peppers I can do, too. But being able to keep my thyme, chives, and parsley throughout the winter will be no more. Sigh…
Avocadoes and Mexican food—gah—I don’t know how I’ll get over leaving the abundance. I swore after I moved here that I must have been Mexican in a previous life. Thank god I love to cook and have rocked out some primo Mexican food from scratch (thanks Rick Bayless!).
