Ask the girl whose house burnt down

Thanks again, eveyone.

And other than the Scotch Fold…the one real tragity here…if I had know how bad it was going to be…*
…it’s more surreal. Still hard to parse everything that’s happened. Still hard to know everthing that’s happened…you keep thinking …oh wait, that’s gone to!!!

But I did mean this be an “ask you” thread. Just to be a help to …well, this will never happen to you of course…

Knowing how surreal it it helps anyone…
It was this cat. Possible demon. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=285797&highlight=adopted

But I’m going to miss the hell out of him anyway.

Oh my poor Fold.

Both questions and black humor are welcome now.

I think my evil demon cat would have wanted it that way.

That happened to me about 9 years ago, while on vacation. The firefighters managed to put out the fire before the house was totally burned down, but it was pretty damaged. Thank god I had a friend taking care of my doggie, or else he would have been locked in the kitchen, where the fire started. Mine was electrical also; a light under the cabinet was on a timer, and when it flicked on it created a spark. The cabinet wood was nice and dry from almost 20 years of use, so the spark caught and spread in no time.

For the insurance, we’d had family over a few months before, so we rounded up pictures to help prove what we did and didnt have. Most of the house was okay, if covered in soot and damaged by the heat, but the kitchen was next to non-existent, as was my dads upstairs office. Recent pictures helped to identify what was lost from the totaled areas, which saved a bit of headache.

I hope everything workes out okay with you. I am sorry about your kitty! This is going to be a headache, but you will be so glad when it is all over. If you need any help, ask away.

My condolences to you for your poor kitty and for the loss of your home. How are your other pets doing?

By the way, you never mentioned what the embarassing thing you grabbed on the way out was, did you?

I am so sorry, betenoir . Our house caught on fire 7 and a half years ago(it seems like yesterday). About three years ago, my aunt’s house caught on fire Thanksgiving morning. Fire hasn’t been kind to us.

Not too bad. Just wondering why they can’t go out anymore. I’m just glad we rounded them all up, they got out but of course ran and hid when all the big strange man started stomping around. Been sleeping a lot, which seems like a wise move. And of course pretty normal :).

That’s just it, I didn’t grab anything (or it would have been the kitty!), it was so fast I was lucky I was dressed (and no shoes, rather nice it happened before the blizzard!) But they let us back in briefly to grab some clothes, (and shoes!) I got the practicle stuff, wasn’t till later I thought about a few…toys I really didn’t need the insurance company pawing through :D. Or for that matter, when my mom brought over a box of things they salvaged, holding something up and asking “What is this?” :o
