Do you have a college degree? If so, in what? What’s your current occupation (or, if you were laid off in the recession, what did you do previously)? How long have you held your job? Have you ever been fired for insubordination? Have you ever been fired (not laid off or downsized, outright fired
Are you married? In a serious, long term and stable relationship? Have children? Born in wedlock or out of it?
Is that really “adult” behavior or just risky and/or trashy behavior? I’m an adult and aside from the sex and occasional drink, most of this behavior doesn’t sound like anything I’m ever likely to get involved in.
I do not do illegal drugs- I am however currently undergoing treatment and possible surgical procedures for back issues, and part of the treatment is opiate medication.
I do not have a degree, but I have some college and quite a large amount of course auditing and self education. I am usually the go-to guy for obscure data and computer help.
I have been in my current bureaucratic government job for nearly 10 years.
I have never been fired- I was let go from the first management position I held at age 20 right before the probationary period ended because I was completely unqualified for the job, and probably should have resigned it.
I have been married. It ended badly due to drug use, but not mine. I am the fully custodial parent of my child and I currently am engaged and we are pregnant.
I was born out of wedlock. My child was born in wedlock. That doesn’t really matter to me… I am not sure what will happen with the new child, but both were very very planned.
True. Most of the people I know have done many of these things as adults, but YMMV. I would call it risky **adult **behavior due to the risks, knowledge aforethought, etc. I also at that age was a vigorous campaigner for lowering the voting age to 16, which I no longer agree with.
I thought it was a reasonable question, and took no offense. Thanks for not making it a warning.
See my earlier comment, but I completely understand.
Sounds like it might be Terelle Pryor’s world. “Not everybody’s the perfect person in the world. I mean everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever.”
How did you get a government job with your history? Do you have any security clearance? Would you be able to get it if you needed to, since that was all juvenile stuff?
Yeah, that’s about 10 years after I was there… when I was there, it was about 50% white students, and about 20% Asian, 15% Black and 15% Hispanic, and was a solidly middle class school. I get the impression it’s not like that at all anymore.
I’d bet we know at least one person in common; I went to Texas A&M after Jesuit and was in the honors dorm, where we had a pretty good Bellaire HS contingent in 1991 and in 1992.
I have never been convicted of anything, except once having a glass bottle of applejuice in a public park.
Plus, while I am always honest about my past, there are very few times people ask me questions in interviews where any of this information would be relevant.
Most government jobs just want you to be honest- and to pass a lie detector based on what you have told them… Although I understand I would be denied some security clearances based on past drug use, that isn’t an issue for me. Not that type of government job.
The average kid isn’t physically able to ejaculate until late 8th grade. Obviously there will be some outliers, but the idea that everyone in a middle school was extremely sexual active is ridiculous.
Everything else in your post is either wildly exaggerated or you went to the most fucked up middle school ever. Either way, the typical middle school activities do not include kids getting nailed by 4 inch ball bearings, crack use, or widespread alcohol/pot use.
Even if it did, it doesn’t make those kids adults. Their brains are still nowhere near fully developed, and they lack the higher reasoning, empathy, foresight, and emotional control of adults.
Huh? The first time I ejaculated was in 5th grade- elementary school. I had been masturbating since I was six, and was pissed off when it started getting messy!
And I know the ‘typical’ will not describe my experience. I wouldn’t have started this thread if it did…
Oh, and, uh, lacking those traits was why we did that stupid shit.
My dad attempted to talk to me about sex when I was 11, and gave me the ‘Our Bodies, etc…’ after he found a stash of playboys, penthouses, and a whole box of reel to reel porn I had stashed in my room. I was too embarrassed to discuss it with him, but I read it cover to cover…
My mom just referred to having thought that ‘The Blessed Event’ had occurred after I made reference to it sometime after it came up in conversation when I was around 17. She also disposed of quite a lot of porn over time, but she stopped after that.
